Erstmals wird hier das »Tagebuch während der Reise« von Max Weidenbach ungekürzt und kommentiert einer Leserschaft vorgestellt. Jene Reise führte von Alexandrien nach Khartum und in den Sinai mit dem Ziel, die Monumente des pharaonischen Ägypten zeichnerisch zu dokumentieren. Max Weidenbach war mit 19 Jahren der jüngste Teilnehmer dieser bedeutenden wissenschaftlichen Expedition unter Leitung von Richard Lepsius, die Preußens König Friedrich Wilhelm IV. finanzierte. Sein Tagebuch wurde 2013 ganz unerwartet im South Australian Museum in Adelaide (wieder-)gefunden. Es ist eine neue und sehr ergiebige Quelle für die Geschichte der Expedition, aber auch für das Ägypten Mohamed Alis.

Horrible, don't buy

I wanted to love these. They had so much potential. It's a good size. It seems like a good shape. But ... 1) first red flag should have been the packaging. It looked like it was a dollar store item that had beenblost on the shelves for years. 2) the rubber is super flexible. I was expecting it to be sturdier. I can flatten the ball without lich force. Maybe that doesn't matter. Naybe flexible is good. But I never got a chance to test out it's durability against a pup because... 3) it smelled. I expected it to smell like rubber, like most rubber toys. Rubber smell is okay. Usually rubber smell goes away. But, this was NOT a rubber smell. It smells like peppermint or something similar. It's like someone sprayed essential oils when mixing the rubber and now the smell will not leave. I soaked it in dawn soap half the day and overnight. I rubbed. I scrubbed. The smell actually gets worst the more you scrub it!!! It's like a scented marker or scented eraser, but you do NOT want the scent in a dog toy! My dog cannot smell the food in it because the smell of the weird mint-like scent is so overpowering. He saw it had food, and wanted it, but every time he started sniffing wildly, he would recoil. Whoever thought it was a good idea to scent this was WRONG. Mint in the form of an essential oil is extremely poisonous to dogs!! So, why they would put a mint-loke scent ijto the dog's rubber treat toy is beyond me. I would return this if I hadn't throw out the package immediately. I considered pulling the package out of the trash once i realized the scent issue but other trash had already been dumped into the trash can over it and i didn't want to dig through trash. The ball is still soaking in soap. I scrubbed again this morning. I let obe dry out. No luck. It actually seems to get worst the more you scrub, like it really is embedded in the rubber itself. Yuck!!!

I got the medium to large size ball for my elderly boxer who has suddenly taken to chewing on everything. The toy has been a decent purchase. Pros: not incredibly stiff plastic for elderly dogs. Easy to manipulate to put treats in the spikes. Easy to clean. Seems engaging for my dog. Cons: probably not for super chewers. This size is probably too small for large or extra large dogs. My dog can easily fit this in his mouth and I wish it was just a little bigger. The ball can only hold one mini milk bone per slot, so it makes for treats to be really easily pulled out. Can't comment on durability yet, haven't had it for long enough. Overall, I like this toy. I just wish it was slightly wider or bigger.
