In dem Buch Echo - Ein Essay über Algorithmen und Begehren betrachtet die Autorin die heutige Gesellschaft durch die Linse des griechischen Mythos von Echo und Narziss. Die Geschichte: Die Bergnymphe Echo redet ununterbrochen. Sie lügt und plappert so viel, dass sie am Ende von Hera bestraft wird. Sie verliert die Fähigkeit, ihre eigenen Sätze zu bilden und kann nur noch wiederholen, was andere sagen. Echos große Liebe ist Narziss, der - nachdem er sich in sein eigenes Spiegelbild verliebt - stirbt. Lena Lindgren zeigt in ihrem Essay, dass dieses Märchen helfen kann, die heutige Welt zu erklären. Sie führt uns zu der Erkenntnis, dass wir kollektiv den Bezug zur Realität verlieren, weil wir - genau wie Echo und Narziss - in unseren eigenen Kanälen (der Echokammer und dem Spiegelsaal) gefangen sind. Sie geht in ihrem Buch auf Themen wie Identitätspolitik, Kulturkriege, Narzissmus (der allzu oft 'Echoismus' in Verkleidung ist), Sucht und Begehren, Verschwörungstheorien und die brutalen Shitstorms in den sozialen Medien ein, und erklärt, wie alle das Ergebnis eines bestimmten Medienmechanismus sind. Diesen Mechanismus nennt sie 'mimetische Algorithmen'. Denn warum werden die Menschen in den sozialen Medien so aggressiv? Warum sehen Instagram-Promis alle mehr oder weniger gleich aus? Warum gedeihen Verschwörungstheorien über diese Kommunikationskanäle? Die Beispiele, die Lindgren in diesem Buch aufführt, sind die typischen 'Medienpersönlichkeiten' unserer Zeit: Donald Trump und der QAnon-Schamane, berühmte Influencer:innen und Glamour-Models, und Terrorist Anders Behring Breivik. Wie ein roter Faden zieht sich die wahre und spannende Geschichte des Investors Peter Thiel und seinem spirituellen Lehrer, dem Religionshistoriker René Girard, durch den Essay. Lena Lindgren ist überzeugt, dass die Radikalisierung, die wir alle erleben, Ausdruck einer fehlgeleiteten Spiritualität ist. Wir sind getrieben von einem Bedürfnis nach 'etwas Größerem', dem Streben nach Liebe und einem Gefühl der Zugehörigkeit. In einem persönlichen und poetischen Stil hat die Autorin eine 'Theorie' darüber aufgestellt, warum die Welt einen Umbruch erlebt, und warum wir diesen nicht unbeschadet, oder unberührt, überstehen.

A dachshund sporting a long rainbow scarf and tasseled hat, riding a bike, and playing a guitar (in a violin ensemble). After determining that she's "not made like all the rest," the story follows her as she sets out to find where she belongs. The bright, colorful illustrations have a lot of fun playing with the humor of long dachshund dogs, especially on the last couple of pages, that end in a satisfying affirmation of the joy of being yourself.

Great book!

I really like this book it includes: ladybug, bumblebee, praying mantis, firefly and (monarch) butterfly. So a good selection of bugs a small child is likely to experience in their yard or park in North America. For the photo board book aged children I really prefer that they discuss vocabulary that the child will be able to use to describe the world around them so I appreciate that most kids will see most of these bugs fairly easily and frequently. I did question the praying mantis since I see them much less frequently than the other bugs in the book but my husband said it is an exciting bug when kids do see it so he supports the choice--I think a fly or mosquito might have been a somewhat more useful choice as far as vocabulary our son could use most often. I liked that they did say the butterfly was a monarch but typically used butterfly so if a child lives where other butterflies are more common they learned the more general term. I think fireflies are less common in some regions but they are so magical as a small child that I think it is a good choice.
