A true “wow” wine, the deep, concentrated 2016 Châteauneuf-du-Pape Les Hauts-Lieux (there's 20% Mourvèdre) offers awesome notes of blackcurrants, smoked meats, graphite, crushed rocks, and licorice. Extraordinarily concentrated, perfectly balanced, structured, and long, it's another sensational wine from this estate. It needs 4-5 years of bottle age and will cruise for 15-20 after that.

Vinous 95/100
Limpid violet. Powerful, mineral-accented aromas of ripe red and blue fruits are complicated by incense, Asian spice and pungent floral accents. Broad and fleshy on the palate, offering sappy, densely packed black raspberry, boysenberry and floral pastille flavors that show alluring sweetness and an exotic touch of five-spice powder. Finishes extremely long and smooth, displaying slow-building, harmonious tannins, a touch of spiciness and resonating red fruit and floral character.

Decanter 95/100
From three high altitude parcels close to the limestone plateau, with some clay in the mix. It's darker and more aromatically brooding compared to his Trois Sources, fuller-bodied with really concentrated and inky fruit. It is very fresh and lively too, with mineral grit and a minty kick on the finish. This has a larger tannic load and is a bigger, more ageworthy wine.

Ausbau
Die Ernte erfolgt vollständig von Hand. Erste Selektion im Weinberg und zweite Selektion im Keller. Vollständig entrappt, nur natürliche Hefe, keine Zugabe von Sulfiten. 20 Tage in Beton mit kontrollierter Temperatur, sanfte Extraktion, um die Trauben zu schonen. Abfüllung erfolgt ohne Filtration und ohne Schönung. 12 Monate im großen Holzfuder und 6 Monate in der Flasche gereift.

Weingut
Das Anwesen wurde im 17. Jahrhundert am Rande des Nordhangs der Terrassen von Châteauneuf du Pape angelegt. 1990 hat Jean-Paul Daumen das Weingut von seinem Vater übernommen und seitdem vieles umgekrempelt. Die Qualität wurde so gesteigert, dass nur das Beste gut genug ist. Die Nordausrichtung der Hanglagen verleiht dem Weinberg die besondere Fähigkeit, sich an die klimatischen Exzesse des südlichen Rhônetals anzupassen und einzigartige, elegante und ausgewogene Weine zu erzeugen. Alle Weine sind biologisch-dynamisch zertifiziert und werden ohne Filtrierung abgefüllt.
