INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Safely Manage Solid Plastering Materials course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning, preparing, handling, sorting, distributing, protecting, storing and cleaning up solid plastering materials safely in accordance with work instructions, specifications, safety data sheets, manufacturer requirements, workplace procedures and required safety controls.
Safely managing solid plastering materials involves interpreting work requirements, identifying material handling needs, checking materials against plans and specifications, selecting suitable tools, equipment and personal protective equipment, and applying safe manual and mechanical handling methods. In real workplace practice, this skill area is important because solid plastering materials must be handled, sorted, stacked, protected and moved safely to support efficient work sequencing, maintain material quality, prevent damage, control dust and keep access areas and traffic ways clear.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to plan, prepare and sequence solid plastering material handling; apply Australian Standards, WHS, environmental, manufacturer and workplace requirements; select and use PPE; inspect worksites, assess hazards and apply risk controls, signage and barricades; identify hazardous materials for authorised handling; select, check and report faults in tools and equipment; check materials against plans and specifications; use manufacturer specifications and safety data sheets; apply manual and mechanical handling techniques; sort, distribute, stack and protect materials; handle loose, bagged, bucketed and pre-mixed materials, corner beads, casing beads, lathing, plaster compounds, finishing coats and additives; and complete dust suppression, disposal, reuse, recycling, storage, tool cleaning, checking and securing requirements.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can safely manage solid plastering materials by interpreting work instructions, applying required safety, environmental, manufacturer and workplace requirements, selecting and checking PPE, tools and equipment, controlling worksite hazards, identifying hazardous materials, checking and handling materials correctly, organising materials for safe access and sequencing, protecting materials from damage, managing waste and dust, and cleaning, storing and securing materials and tools according to workplace procedures.
