- Yoruba Cup Carrier, Nigeria #
- Shows traces of restoration at the level of the headdress and some nails, apparently very old, at the level of the body. Beautiful scarification patterns and traces of old polychromy.
- Measurements: 55×26×25 cm
- Condition: Good
- Provenance: Collection Privée F. D.
- This superb carved wooden Figure of a kneeling woman with an infant child on her back and holding a bowl in the form of a cock or chicken is referred to by the southern Nigerian Ekiti people as Olumeye (‘One-Who-Knows-Honour’). It depicts a woman who is said to be a Messenger of the Spirits. Such sculptures were used to hold Kola Nuts, which were offered to visitors, as Shrine Containers for Offerings to an Orisha, and to hold Palm Nuts used in Ifa Divination. "Ikin" are the 16 Palm Nuts used to form binary sets of data during the Divination Process. (Rowland, Drewal & Pemberton, 1991, p. 39).
- The Ifa Divination System, which makes use of an extensive corpus of texts and mathematical formulas, is practiced among Yoruba Communities and by the African Diaspora in the Americas and the Caribbean.
- The Figure is very similar in form and style to a similar Kneeling-Woman-and-Bowl Figure illustrated in Rowland, Drewal & Pemberton which is attributed to a member of the wood-carving Adesina Family, most possibly the Master Carver Agbonbiofe who died in 1945.
The Figure, on a rounded base, is carved from a single piece of light wood. Traditionally, kneeling was a gesture of Respect and Devotion among the Yoruba.
The Figure has an oval face and bulging almond eyes with prominent eyelids. The nose is flared; the ears pointed; and the lips full and sensual. Three vertical scarifications are on both cheeks. This type of scarification, termed "Pele", is regarded by many Yoruba Communities in South-Western Yorubaland as ‘Gems’ on the human face.
The figure has traditional Bridal Head-dressing: a raised single-crested coiffure with incised triangular motifs. This coiffure is called "Irun Agogo", which is commonly related to Marriage.
The torso is erect. Three bracelets are carved on each of her wrists. Geometric carving work is around the female figure’s shoulders and breasts; the breasts are also topped with a diamond pendant. Otherwise, the figure is unclothed.
Such images of the Female represent a Manifestation of Yoruba Ideals of Beauty and the Gods’ Power to Bequeath Fertility. The Carver has carefully executed the figure’s composition to conform to Yoruba Traditions as well as to achieve a great sense of equilibrium.
The figure’s strong arms hold firmly to the bowl. The bowl itself is in the form of the bottom-half of a chicken (with zoomorphic feet and a tail). The top half, which would have been in the form of the chickens head and top part of the back now is missing. The bowl is carved with diagonal carved bands.
A Baby Figure is carved clinging to the Female Figure’s back.
Overall, this Bowl Group conveys a sense of tranquillity through the facial expression of the Primordial Mother. She is youthful, and yet strong and maternal.
It has an excellent brown patina with contours softened from age and handling.

Easy instructions, comfortable cushions
Color: Pink
I just put it together and I love it!!! It's so comfortable and it was easy to put together. You can rock it back and forth which helps your back. The seat is very wide and the cushion is thick. Pink is my favorite color, and this chair satisfies my pink obsession.

Wonderful chair
Color: Dark Black
I bought this office chair as a sewing tool, you might say. I felt that having an office chair on wheels would get me from the sewing machine to the ironing board and then to the cutting board and back to the sewing machine. I was having to get up and down to get around to all these places before and this saves me so much time and effort.
I’m 71 so when the box came I was hesitant to try to bust into it and put it together but it went together so easily. It’s very comfortable and the lumbar support feels great on my low back. When I first sat down after the assembly process, the chair cushion tipped down in the front but after contacting the support team I was advised to tighten the tilt tension located under the chair and that fixed me right up!
All and all, my chair is the perfect addition to my sewing area at a very affordable price. I couldn’t be happier!

Comfortable, affordable, and great for small spaces!
Color: Light Purple, Color: Light Purple
I had previously left a review of two stars, but have since deleted that review after I've owned the chair for a few weeks now. Initially, I stated the chair was uncomfortable and not cushioned at all. But this issue quickly resolved after sitting it for a longer time, it seems the cushion molds to you. So it may be uncomfortable the first few times sitting on it, but it eventually softens. The cushion is now soft yet sturdy. You don't sink in too much, but it's comfortable for sitting for long periods of time. I personally enjoy the mesh back as well, it supports my lower back and doesn't cause back pain. Normally I have to use a cushion of my own to support my lower back for most chairs, but this one actually supports me in a way that doesn't require an extra cushion - so that's really nice.
The chair is fairly on the smaller end, which is perfect for low desks or tight spaces, which is exactly what I wanted. The height can be adjusted, but even at the highest setting, it is still fairly low. Keep that in mind - it may not be super comfortable for those over 6 ft. The arms flip up which makes storing it under a low desk very easy. The cushion is thick and very accurate to the picture. I love that it is lightweight and doesn't make much noise when rolling the chair. It also feels very sturdy. Some of the reviews say it feels flimsy, and I don't know if some are just assembling it incorrectly, because for me this thing is very strong and holds up quite nicely under my weight.
Overall, this is exactly what I wanted for my personal living space. A chair that's not too bulky, but comfortable enough to sit in for long hours. It functions as advertised for this purpose.
One final thing -- the color selection is gorgeous. I bought the light purple color and it fits my setup nicely! Color was accurate to the picture, and looks very cute and adorable in my space.

Surprisingly amazing chair!
Color: Pink, Color: Pink
tl;dr: If you need a chair that has the features of this one, then this one is a winner! Hits above its weight class for sure.
My wife is 5’. She’s small. For whatever reason she ended up with a chair made for big people, like 6+ feet and up to 500lbs type of a chair. She’d often even sleep on it and chill on it. The chair was big enough to fit 2 of her to be honest. It was an expensive chair that I won at some raffle and didn’t like myself. Over the years it ripped (got a cover for it) and even started to get lopsided (from the sleeping) and finally a spring broke (hence the pillow on it in the pictures)
She obviously lives pink. I also wanted to get a chair where she could work and not end ip asleep on. Not like we have a couch or a bed for that 😂.
This chair is very obviously smaller than her previous chair, it’s also significantly cheaper in price and build, it’s also not as durable feeling or stable, and it’s just not as padded. Yet somehow it’s an amazing chair that we both like better than her previous chair???
Like it’s crazy that this chair somehow works better in so many ways. Her desk is modified to be shorter than normal desks (again, she small lol) and her previous chair was just too big. The wheels are also like SUPER smooth, like you can run a chair race easily with it. It rolls over her rug and tucks into her desk (which is in our bedroom) easily. The amount of space this has save us when the chair isn’t being used is a lot. Previous chair was much bigger and didn’t tuck in at all.
The color is nice and the padding is plenty for a small and much lighter than 500lbs woman. I’m 6 feet and 200 lbs and the chair is nice for me as well. My chair is bigger and more secure in the backing, which is similar to this one. The lowest tension setting on my chair is still too high for her to lean back on my chair. This chair has a lower tension minimum and she can easily lean back freely, as well as keep enough tension to work without sagging.
This chair is surprisingly outstanding! I’m sure my wife will destroy it quicker than the last one, but it’s so cheap that even if it only lasts 1-3 years, I’ll happily buy it ones or twice more 🤷🏽♀️. Maybe by then they’ll invent a comfortable titanium chair that’s affordable that she won’t destroy 😂.
