An African-American woman who rose from humble beginnings, she became famous for reviving the almost forgotten world of refined Southern cooking. The Edna Lewis Cookbook was her first book, published in 1972, and contains over 100 recipes, arranged in menu form and organized according to the season of the year.Edna Lewis was recently honored with the issuance of a postal stamp by the US Post Office. She is renowned as one of the greatest American chefs and as an African-American woman who almost single handedly revived a forgotten world of refined Southern cooking. Another celebrated American chef, James Beard, remarked: “Edna Lewis makes me want to go right into the kitchen and start cooking.” Lewis won many industry awards and was often referred to as “the Grande Dame of Southern Cooking” and the “South’s answer to Julia Child.” Lewis (1916-2006) also had a remarkable life story. She was born and grew up in rural Virginia in an area called Freetown. She learned to cook from an extended family that included grandparents who had been enslaved. The Edna Lewis Cookbook, Lewis’s first book, published in 1972, contains over 100 recipes, arranged in menu form and organized according to the season of the year: Spring, Summer, Autumn, and Christmas. With its focus mostly although not exclusively on Southern food, it began the revival of true Southern cooking. Lewis went on to publish three more books: The Taste of Country Cooking (1976), In Pursuit of Flavor (1988), and The Gift of Southern Cooking, co-authored with Scott Peacock (2003). Her menus and recipes were featured in a variety of publications, including the New York Times, the New York Times Magazine, the Washington Post, Gourmet, Food & Wine, Cook’s, House & Garden, and Redbook, among others. This edition of The Edna Lewis Cookbook marks the 100th Anniversary of Miss Lewis’s birth. Evangeline Peterson studied with Edna Lewis and assisted her in compiling The Edna Lewis Cookbook

Fit and comfort
Size: 12, Color: Ch British Tan/Ivory
These have to rate as equal to any shoes I've ever owned. I know everyone's foot is shaped differently but when I slipped my feet into these I was immediately sure I had made the correct choice. Sizing is true.
You note, I'm sure, that these are slip-on shoes. My experience with slip-ons has been mixed as sometimes the heel tends to slip due to the maker leaving room for the slip-on function to take place. When I got these I discovered that the opening for my feet was so tight I needed to shoe-horn them in and it wasn't particularly easy. The heel counter was "high and tight" but once I got my feet in the shoes it was heaven. Then, after a couple of days wearing them I can now slip my feet into these slip-ons with ease and the shoes grip my feet like a lace-up shoe can do.
I have one other pair of Cole Haans in the same size 12. They are also a wonderful fit for me.

Great shoes true to size

Great shoes, came with box. Brand new, true to size 11 US ! :) in my country they cost 270 USD so, really nice and very comfortable shoe considering i have plantar fasciitis.
3 month update: They get wrinkles pretty fast in just a few weeks due to the material, it’s not noticeable to others at all, but it’s worth keeping this in mind when buying this particular model.

The world's most perfect dress pants
I have purchased several of these pairs of pants over the last few years at my job. I wear these pants every shift. They were great. They fit perfect and don't wrinkle or need ironed, that's a huge plus. I work 12 hour shifts in a hospital in a non medical role. So, these are dress pants, not work pants but they wear really well and do not show wear. I have worn other brands that have come apart. These are top of the line and the only pants I wear at my job. They are not not at all hot to wear either. Please, try a pair and I hope you love them.
