1950's Soviet Latvian Chess Pieces are modeled after one of the favorite Latvian designs of Soviet Grandmaster Mikhail Tal.
The pieces have a unique and slender design that is aesthetically pleasing in their elegance. Wide Bases and sleek tops consistent in king, queen, and bishop make it a fresh change from the traditional Staunton design.
Knights are unusually large with their manes only on one side. The pieces have been double-weighted using a combination of iron and lead studs to improve their playability on the chessboard.
No wonder, this is one of the most popular designs of the Soviet era!

Heavy duty brackets!

These brackets are heavy duty and came with the correct hardware. They were easy to install, the two holes were so helpful to know where to mark them. I think because they’re heavy duty you can place a good amount of weight on your shelves. The only thing I wasn’t happy with is that 4/69 of shelves, the paint was chipping but it was the perfect gold color.

Ignore the “Frequently returned item” message!

I usually don’t write reviews but I thought I should for these shelves. I was a little skeptical on these based on the “Frequently returned item” message but I decided to give them a shot and I’m glad I did! These shelves are solid and well made, beautiful color, fit perfectly in the corner of my wall, and are easy to hang. I’m not sure why they are frequently returned but I will be ordering another set for my wife’s side of the room.
