His job was to survey the land and flag the boundaries for clear-cutting. As he made his way through the forest, Cronin came across a massive Douglas fir the height of a twenty-storey building. It was one of the largest trees in Canada that if felled and milled could easily fetch more than fifty thousand dollars. Instead of moving on, he reached into his vest pocket for a flagging he rarely used, tore off a strip, and wrapped it around the base of the trunk. Along the length of the ribbon were the words "Leave Tree." When the fallers arrived, every wiry cedar, every droopy-topped hemlock, every great fir was cut down and hauled away - all except one. The solitary tree stood quietly in the clear cut until activist and photographer T.J. Watt stumbled upon the Douglas fir while searching for big trees for the Ancient Forest Alliance, an environmental organization fighting to protect British Columbia's dwindling old-growth forests. The single Douglas fir exemplified their cause: the grandeur of these trees juxtaposed with their plight. They gave it a name: Big Lonely Doug. The tree would also eventually, and controversially, be turned into the poster child of the Tall Tree Capital of Canada, attracting thousands of tourists every year and garnering the attention of artists, businesses, and organizations who saw new values encased within its bark. Originally featured as a long-form article in The Walrus that garnered a National Magazine Award (Silver), Big Lonely Doug weaves the ecology of old-growth forests, the legend of the West Coast's big trees, the turbulence of the logging industry, the fight for preservation, the contention surrounding ecotourism, First Nations land and resource rights, and the fraught future of these ancient forests around the story of a logger who saved one of Canada's last great trees.Shipping Notes

I have been so excited to get to this one for a while, and I really wanted to (and was so sure that I would) love this one, but in the end I thought it was just okay. This one started out so strong IMO (I'm a nervous flyer so I understood Olivia), I loved the "meet cute", and as a previous runner (who did RunDisney) I loved that part. I was really excited to see where it went once I realized it was going to be fake dating (my favorite trope). I liked each MC, but I really wish that Stella's POV was also included. I liked most of the side characters, and enjoyed how emotional the family aspects of this book were. This is open door, and there were a few really sweet/swoony sweet moments. For me this one felt very long in some points, but slow in others. Another thing that really bugged me was that Stella is described as "Latina". I personally hated that we were pretty far into the book before that was discussed, and I felt like it was weirdly used as a plot for why Stella was trying so hard to get her promotion. I also hated that there was so much family drama with Olive's family and there was no real resolution, and with Stella's dad I was hoping to see where he was in his diagnosis in the epilogue. Over all it wasn't a bad book, but it was disappointing IMO. I know this author has another book coming out soon, and I will eventually read it, and I hope it works better for me.

Fantastic debut sapphic romance!!

I just want to hug these characters!
Fly With Me has been a book I’ve been looking forward to reading for some time now, I’m excited to say it does not disappoint! 🩷💜💙
This sapphic romance was full of steamy bits, darling tender moments, and tons of emotional goodness!
I adore when a romance packs an emotional punch, and this one absolutely does! There is depression, panic attacks, end of life care, sexism in the workplace, and so much more. Surrounding all of that though is a cute wlw love story with fake dating, a funny dog, delicious food, pop culture references, road trips, a sick/comfort moment, and deep conversations!
All in all- I really enjoyed this one! Andie did an amazing job at writing characters that felt real and familiar! I can’t wait to see what else she writes moving forward!

Wonderful Read
Format: Kindle
Fly With Me is a heartfelt story filled with witty banter and internal monologues yet incredibly touching. It is also about both finding and recognizing your own strength and worth. Olive and Stella agree to a fake relationship that of course turns into the real thing as they learn about themselves as well as each other. Add in a great cast of characters including a loveable dog, family health issues and drama, and a jealous ex and you have a story that is a wonderful read!

Seriously underrated!

I just happened up this book by a fairly new queer writer and instantly fell in love with this book! Like head over heels, couldn't put it down in love. The first paragraph had me laughing, and those laughs carried on throughout the book. But on the flip side, the story will have you in tears of empathy for the main character as she navigates her life with the continued loss of her big brother and biggest supporter. Lastly, these two main characters are ones you root for from the word go!!

Beautiful sapphic story

This neurodivergent sapphic romance was everything I wanted in a book. Seeing the messing sides of both characters and seeing them come together was beautiful. Relationships are hard. Being neurodivergent is really really hard. The author somehow got it into these pages and it's beautiful.
