The Architectural Marvel of Castel Sant'Angelo

Castel Sant'Angelo, originally built as a mausoleum for Emperor Hadrian, stands as a stunning example of ancient Roman architecture. This cylindrical fortress, with its imposing structure and rich historical layers, showcases the evolution of Roman design. Its transformation from a tomb to a papal fortress highlights the dynamic history of Rome.

Castel Sant'Angelo: A Fortress with a Rich History

Throughout the centuries, Castel Sant'Angelo has served various purposes, including a fortress, a papal residence, and a prison. It played a crucial role during the Renaissance, especially during the siege of Rome in 1527. The castle's storied past is reflected in its walls, which have witnessed countless historical events, making it a symbol of resilience and power.

Symbolism of Castel Sant'Angelo in Art and Culture

In art and culture, Castel Sant'Angelo represents strength and protection. Its iconic angel statue, designed by Gian Lorenzo Bernini, adds a layer of spiritual significance. Artists like Brandeis capture this symbolism, intertwining the fortress's historical essence with the beauty of the surrounding landscape.

Ponte Sant'Angelo: The Bridge of Angels

The Artistic Design and Historical Context of Ponte Sant'Angelo

Ponte Sant'Angelo, connecting Castel Sant'Angelo to the city, is adorned with ten angel statues, each crafted by renowned Baroque artists. This bridge, originally built in 134 AD, has undergone several renovations, yet it retains its historical charm. Brandeis' painting beautifully encapsulates the bridge's elegance against the backdrop of Rome's vibrant life.

Brandeis' Interpretation of the Bridge's Iconic Statues

In her artwork, Brandeis pays homage to the angel statues, capturing their grace and divine presence. Each figure tells a story, representing various saints and their significance in Christian tradition. This interpretation adds depth to the painting, inviting viewers to explore the spiritual connection between the bridge and the city.

Connecting Landmarks: The Role of Ponte Sant'Angelo in Roman Life

Ponte Sant'Angelo has long been a vital thoroughfare for Romans and visitors alike. It serves as a gathering place, a site for celebrations, and a passage to the Vatican. Brandeis' depiction of this bridge highlights its importance in the daily lives of Romans, showcasing the blend of art, culture, and history.

St. Peter's Basilica: A Beacon of Faith and Art

The Architectural Grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica, an architectural marvel of the Renaissance, dominates the skyline of Vatican City. Designed by legendary architects like Michelangelo and Bernini, its grand dome and intricate façade symbolize the heart of Catholicism. The basilica's opulence and artistic details make it a focal point in Brandeis' painting.

In "A View of Rome," Brandeis captures the basilica's majestic presence, framing it against the serene waters of the Tiber River. This composition emphasizes the harmony between nature and human achievement, showcasing the basilica as a spiritual and artistic landmark.

Religious Significance and Artistic Influence of St. Peter's Basilica

St. Peter's Basilica is not just a religious site; it is a canvas of artistic expression. The works of masters like Caravaggio and Raphael within its walls inspire countless artists. Brandeis' painting reflects this artistic lineage, inviting viewers to appreciate the basilica's role in shaping the cultural landscape of Rome.

Fluffy and Nice Omegaverse
Format: Kindle
… this would have made 5 stars but for 2 reasons. A.) there were quite a few typos; misspelled words, missing quotations, “the his” mistakes, and various signs that maybe a proofread would do good. B.) the writing was quite textbook. Late blooming omega is struggling with her new self, finds a absurdly wealthy pack of alphas, every thing is almost insta-love but she resists, then decides to love herself and let everyone be happy. Rian was my favourite (obviously the author’s favourite too because he got the most page time) but I wish we could see more of his CEO side? He went to work maybe ONCE the entire time. Gray was supposed to be the “growly one” but he turned out to be puppy dog. Lucas was a genius brainiac doctor - but also super alpha with an aggressive hindbrain with a breeding k*nk?? And then there was no actual “breeding”?? Spice 3/5 - normally omegaverse books are super high on messy smut but this was tamer. Romance 3/5 - insta-love that was then resisted because of personal hangup’s Plot 2/5 - weird paced head hopping, showing the same scene from different POV’s that made me feel like it was 2 steps backward, 1 step forward. Humour 4/5 - there were a dozen lines that genuinely made me chuckle out loud Would have been five stars but the lack of proofreading and the predictable plot made me unable to get up to ADORED IT level - four stars is still and official ENJOYED IT, y’all. This isn’t a bad rating. The “Club Heat” has intriguing possibilities so I’m going to give the second one a shot.

Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!!
Format: Paperback, Format: Paperback
Queen of Roses (Blood of a Fae #1) by Briar Boleyn Genre General Fiction ( Adult), Romance, Sci-Fi & Fantasy, Dark Romance “More primordial than the stars. My name was on his lips as he promised unspeakable darkness to any who came between us.” Right from the start, I was drawn in by the prologue!!! I’m a big fan of “touch her, and you die” vibes, but I mean, what’s also not to love about a unique Arthurian retelling with gender twists, a treacherous royal court, a dangerous quest, magical Fae & mystical monsters, entwined with a bit of spice! Morgan, Princess of Pendrath and true heir to the throne has spent most of her life dimming her light to feel safe and to make others comfortable. She is treated as an outcast in the court and repressed by her family due to the blood of the Fae within her and forced to join the Temple of the Three as a priestess in training to one day replace Merlin. Her brother, King Arthur, who reminds me of Joffrey from Game of Thrones, later tells her that he has other plans and offers her a choice of the Temple or to marry her off for political gain, unless… that is, she can journey through the great unknown and return with a long-lost fae weapon with enchanted powers known as Excalibur. Her quest begins with a roguish crew that includes the mysterious, arrogant, and heart-tuggingly handsome Captain of the Royal Guard, Kairos Draven, whom she can’t decide if she wants to stab or indulge in pleasure with. Along the way are plenty of surprises, mystical creatures, and betrayal, all while Morgan uncovers more of the truth about herself and who she can trust. This book had intriguing storylines and lovable characters that kept me turning pages and wanting more. I can’t wait to see how it all unfolds and comes together in book 2, Court of Claws, which I just started reading!! Read if you’re into- Dark Fantasy/Romance Slow–Burn Question Everything Magic and Action Fae Arthurian Legend Stabby/Broken FFC Morally Gray MMC Forced Proximity Queen of Roses is perfect for Holly Black, Jennifer L. Armentrout, and Sarah J. Maas fans. Please check the trigger warnings page in the table of contents before reading this book.

3.5 stars, A little boring to say the least.
Format: Kindle
Wow so I'm not sure where to begin on this one. This was a very different take on the legend of Arthur and Excalibur. This is told from the point of view of Morgan the sister of Arthur. Honestly the first 50% of this book is world building and character building which unfortunately was super boring for me. Morgan to me was a female MC that had a hard time in believing in herself. Sometimes taking too long to understand exactly what was going on around her. Draven was also a different male MC, like I couldn't put my finger on him and what he was all about. It was not until the last 10% of the book did we get some answers on the mystery that is Draven. The other 50% of the book centered around this big journey with everyone having a different motive. We see a spark of magic around this time that had me excited but then we never expanded upon that and what it could mean for the female MC. I feel like I want to read the second book just to see where this goes, but the spice was probably a 2 out of 5. Side characters are ok, Lancelet was fun but I almost felt like I wanted more.
