This original hand-coloured engraving is from James Sowerby's ”English Botany or, Coloured Figures of British Plants, with their Essential Characters, Synonyms and Places of Growth”, published by J. Davis in London in 1790 - 1814. First edition of the extensively illustrated botanical series. The reverse side of this engraving is blank. The text page on the third picture, below, is an original page from this work with original description and explanation, of the botanical engraving, which we will include in the purchase.


James Sowerby was an English naturalist and illustrator born in 1757 and died in 1822. He is best known for his extensive work in botanical illustration, particularly in his publication "English Botany." Sowerby produced thousands of detailed and accurate illustrations of plants, which were highly valued for their scientific precision. His contributions significantly advanced the study of British flora and made botanical knowledge more accessible.

My dog loves it.

I thought I was going to have to return this dog toy because my dog was afraid of the toy, especially the squeaker. But after a while, he finally did start playing with it and now he won’t let the other dogs touch his frog. It’s so bad that if they do touch it, he rips it out or their mouth, jumps up into a chair, and lays on top of it so they can’t get it. He still doesn’t like the squeaker if it’s down in front of him, but if I’m in another room, the squeaker makes him come running. He loves the squirrel I got him too. But the material of the frog seems really durable. The part I like the most of that it’s like a puppet and you can stick your hand in it or an empty bottle of water and then Velcro it shut. If your dog doesn’t like the squeaker, there is a pouch in the mouth of the frog that you can access through this velcroed area and cut it out. Definitely a must have if you have a tough chewer.

This was a pretty good toy. I have three pitbulls. The puppy in my video is 65lbs for reference to the toy. I thought that since it was fluffless she wouldn't try to eat the thing but after a couple of days of tugging it with her brothers the toy's paw came off and I was not fast enough to prevent her from swallowing it. She got rid of it with little GI stress. I will say that even though she's not squeaking it in the video, it has a pretty loud squeak. Overall we had it for four days before 260lbs of pooches were able to get the squeaker out. If you have pits then you know this is 5-star worthy sturdiness.
