This saree has been woven by state award winner Master weaver Narayan Das and his wife Gurubari Das. She also happens to be VaniVrtti’s first weaver and the gurubari series is named after her.
The saree has been entered for National award this year.
It took more than a month for two master weavers to setup the loom for this design. A hundred Jalas are attached to the loom which are handpicked to create such an intricate design. It took the master weaver 45 days to create a piece.
The design is inspired by the famous Chilika lake of Odisha, hence it has been named “Incredible Chilika” The lake is the largest wintering ground for a host of migratory birds and home to a number of threatened species of plants and animals. There is a famous Devi temple named “Kalijai” on an island midst of lake Chilika. All of these elements are beautifully woven in the sari.

•  The Zig-Zag motifs running through the border and anchal in copper sulphate blue colour is symbolic of the water waves in the Chilika Lake. 
• The flying bird buttis all over the body in off-white colour depicts the migration of different species of birds from all over the world at Chilika lake.
• The birds sitting face to face on the water in off-white colour with a red coloured beak depicts Flamingos as Chilika Lake Bird Sanctuary is a habitat of one of the biggest breeding places of flamingos in the world.
• The pink lotus flower with a green leaf and stem is symbolic of the beautiful flora surrounding the Chilika lake which is predominantly aquatic and sub-aquatic plants.

• The orange fish flowing under the water is symbolic of the Irrawaddy dolphin which is the flagship species of Chilika lake.
• The turtles in yellow colour under the water symbolises the rare and threatened green sea turtle of Chilika Lake.
• The colourful temple structure with a red coloured crowned statue inside it, woven at the beginning of the anchal depicts the famous ‘Kalijai Temple’ with goddess Kalijai statue located on a small island in Chilika lake, is a major tourist site for the pilgrims.
• The boats floating over water carrying men and women in yellow and orange colour on the middle of the anchal of the saree depicts pilgrims and tourists visiting Kalijai Temple on a motorboat.
