In honour of the 20th Anniversary of God of War, Sony Interactive Entertainment’s Santa Monica Studio and Laced Records have united to create a fearsome 13-disc vinyl set spanning 2005’s God of War to 2023’s God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla. 

Dual outer slipcases part to reveal seven separate outer sleeves, which in turn house a printed inner sleeve for each disc with artwork drawn from Santa Monica Studio’s extensive series archives. All music has been specially mastered for vinyl.

At every step along Kratos’ odyssey, the music of God of War has been about capturing the flames and the fury of his struggle, harnessing the might of the orchestra, the humanity and divinity of the choir, and thunderous percussion. Each score is brimming with powerful, emotive themes worthy of the gods themselves, bringing a noble but warlike weightiness to the games. 

A pantheon of composers has touched the series, starting with those that helped craft the Greek saga (Gerard K. Marino, Mike Reagan, Ron Fish, Cris Velasco, Grammy Award-winner Winifred Phillips, Winnie Waldron, and Tyler Bates); and Grammy Award-nominated Bear McCreary, who created the musicscapes of the Norse saga.

With the soundtrack for God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla—presented on vinyl for the first time—Bear McCreary and his Sparks & Shadows team tie together the musical threads running throughout both the Greek and Norse sagas. 

To allow listeners to chillax and reflect upon the 20-year journey of the Ghost of Sparta, the box set is capped off by three tracks from Alex Moukala & Lawrence Ravagnan’s God of War Ragnarök: Lofi Beats to Journal to—a downtempo instrumental hip-hop take on McCreary’s Grammy-nominated score.
