Dermovate Description
Dermovate is a steroid cream or ointment applied to the skin to help soothe irritation and inflammation. It's useful for treating various dermatitis conditions.
We're here to assist you in finding the best treatment for your skin. You can order Dermovate online and receive safe, expert advice during your treatment plan.

What is Dermovate?

Dermovate is a strong skin treatment that you can get with a prescription. It comes as either a cream or an ointment. You can apply it directly to irritated or inflamed skin to help manage conditions such as contact dermatitis, eczema, and psoriasis.

Clobetasol propionate is the active ingredient and it's a type of corticosteroid, commonly known as a 'steroid'. These are often used to treat skin conditions such as vitiligo and lichen planus. Topical corticosteroids are generally divided into four categories based on their strength: low, moderate, high, and ultra-high potency. Clobetasol is in the ultra-high potency group, meaning it can often show results in just a few days. Due to its strength, you should be careful when applying it to areas with thin skin, like your face.

How does Dermovate work?

Topical steroids help by lessening inflammation and irritation. Clobetasol propionate is one of the strongest steroids you can get, and it's used to treat various skin conditions. It has properties that reduce inflammation and suppress the immune response, which can help decrease the swelling and itching associated with dermatitis.

Dermatitis refers to various skin conditions, including eczema, contact dermatitis, and seborrheic dermatitis (which affects the scalp). These conditions often share common symptoms like inflammation, itchiness, and redness. Dermovate can help lessen these symptoms and ease the discomfort caused by irritated skin.

The type of formula recommended to you will generally depend on your symptoms and how your skin looks. If your skin is moist, a cream might be suggested, while an ointment could be more suitable for dry, flaky skin.

What doses of Dermovate are there?

Dermovate ointment and cream are available in two tube sizes: 30 grams or 100 grams. Both versions have the same strength, containing 0.05% clobetasol propionate.

The dosage you’re given will depend on how severe your dermatitis is and how long it’s advised for you to use Dermovate.

How long does Dermovate take to work?

Dermovate can have varying effects depending on the individual. The duration for which you should use this medication can also vary based on the skin condition being treated. For instance, if you're dealing with contact dermatitis, you might only need to apply the cream or ointment for about a week.

If your dermatitis is more persistent or keeps coming back, you might be able to use Dermovate for a longer period than normally advised, but only under a clinician's supervision.

Topical treatments tend to work better the longer they're left on the skin. A study showed that clobetasol propionate was most effective after being in contact with the skin for two hours, compared to just half an hour.

What should I do if I make a mistake while using Dermovate?

Whether you're using Dermovate cream or ointment, the same guidelines apply if you make any errors during your treatment. As long as you follow the prescription instructions, there's no need to worry, but there are a few key points to keep in mind.

If you forget to apply Dermovate, there's no need to use extra. Simply apply it when you remember, unless it's nearly time for your next dose. If that's the case, just skip the missed dose and continue with your usual schedule.

If you're thinking about suddenly stopping the cream or ointment, it's important to inform a clinician, as this can sometimes worsen your symptoms. If you accidentally swallow any Dermovate, go to your nearest hospital straight away for medical help.

Is Dermovate similar to any other dermatitis treatments?

Topical corticosteroids, such as hydrocortisone, mometasone, and fluticasone, are commonly prescribed for dermatitis. They come in various strengths and formulations and are widely used to manage conditions like eczema and psoriasis.

What makes Dermovate different from most steroid creams is its strength. Due to its high potency, it may be prescribed if other treatments haven't helped with your symptoms.

For certain skin conditions, medicated bandages are used together with topical treatments.

Is Dermovate suitable for everyone?

Dermovate ointment and cream are generally suitable for most adults. Our healthcare professionals will guide you on using corticosteroids to treat your dermatitis and will only prescribe them if they believe it's safe for you.

Sharing as much information as possible during your first consultation can assist our medical team in spotting any potential risks Dermovate might have for your health.

If you've ever experienced an allergic reaction to clobetasol, you should steer clear of both the cream and ointment forms. Additionally, if you have a skin infection or broken skin, using Dermovate on these areas could worsen your symptoms.

Since clobetasol is a potent steroid treatment, you may need to steer clear of it if your dermatitis is on your face. If a healthcare professional advises you to use Dermovate for conditions such as rosacea and acne, it will only be recommended for up to five days.

Do I need a prescription for Dermovate?

To begin using Dermovate, you'll need a prescription. Our clinicians will prescribe it only if they believe it will effectively treat your dermatitis, and they'll ensure it's a safe option for you first.

You can find a variety of creams and moisturisers available over the counter at pharmacies and supermarkets that may help with your skin condition. It's a good idea to look at the ingredients they contain, and if you're using them regularly to manage your dermatitis, consult a healthcare professional.

Will Dermovate cause side effects?

All medications can cause side effects, and Dermovate is no exception. However, everyone responds differently to treatments, so you might not experience any side effects at all.

The patient information leaflet that comes with your medication mentions that common side effects of Dermovate include a burning sensation and irritation right after application. This typically occurs in about 1 in 10 people and isn't considered serious.

If you notice a new rash or swelling on your skin after using the cream or ointment, stop using Dermovate straight away.

Dermovate isn't right for everyone, and there are a few things you should know when using it.

Here's all the official information you need. If anything isn't clear, just let our clinician know, and they can discuss it with you.

Smaller than pictured
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium, Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
It’s a lot smaller than pictured and I have the same dog type as was depicted in the one of the pictures. The dog like it so I guess that’s good. I will not be playing tug of war with him using this. I like my fingers thank you very much. I would say it durable. He destroys most toys in minutes. He did destroy the squeaky part in about 10 minutes so bonus points for that.

Great for dogs like to to chew and like squeakers!
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium, Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
Harder to hold up to his bites. He started to pounce on it to make it squeak like he was honking the horn. He likes it and carries it around the house. Its a must buy for medium to large dogs

Dog & I Disagree/ Aggressive Chewers Short-Term Toy
Color: Red, Size: Medium
This is day two, and, My dog LOVED this toy! He loved the squeaking aspect, chewing the center squeaky area so he could squeak it himself (adorable!). He also loved playing fetch with it, but he loves fetch, but this was fun for him as it wasn't a ball. The chewing enjoyment is where it was at for him as he Loves to chew, and it was a nice weight that he could really carry around and have fun. I did love this toy, as it was cute, and he was having such a great time with it! Until his teeth kept getting stuck in the rubber around the center squeaker area when getting it to squeak by himself. That was almost it, but he LOVES this toy, so I gave it another chance. Then, one of his teeth got stuck in the center and his teeth became hooked on the top of the outer round and he couldn't get it out of his mouth. That was the End. Perhaps more size options, small, medium, and large, with safer spaces, at each size, between the squeaker area and the outer ring- so they can squeak it, yet avoid getting their teeth stuck and/or their mouths stuck open. I would say the durability is lacking, as, while similar, a Benebone it is not, though it gets sharp too-ouch! He had the outer rounds pretty tore up on the first day, and even more tore up today, so if you have a truly aggressive chewer, this is also a short term toy. This is a fun toy and many love it, though many more could love it with a few modifications. As it is, I did not find it a value for my money, even with as much fun as he had; at this time, the safety aspect and the ease with which he chewed it requires I look somewhere else. I hope this helps.

Plastic cut my dog
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
If your pet chews a lot do not buy. My dog chewed the plastic and cut her nose when grabbing the toy because of how sharp it became.

Great for aggressive chewers
Color: Mixed, Size: Medium
This toy held up well. My dog is a very aggressive chewer and will shred apart any toy she can. She was not able to tear up this one. I have not found many toys that she doesn't destroy
