A calmer brush for cats & dogs

The brush they don't run from.

Not actually steam. A fine cool mist released through soft silicone bristles — helps loose fur stay on the brush, not on the sofa.

The story

A brush built for the pet that hates being brushed

Every "steam pet brush" on the market admits it in the small print: it isn't really steam. It's a cool mist. We thought we'd say that loudly at the top instead. PawMist is a USB-rechargeable brush with a small water reservoir — press the button, and a fine mist releases through soft silicone bristles as you brush. The mist helps loose fur clump on the brush instead of flying around the room. The silicone is soft enough that cats who flee a wire slicker tend to tolerate it. It doesn't replace a slicker in heavy shed season, and it isn't a substitute for a groomer on serious mats — but for the everyday between-baths brush-time that most pets endure rather than enjoy, it's the calmer tool.

What's inside

Four things that make it different

Cool fine mist

Not heated. A few millilitres of water released through the bristles — enough to lift fur, not soak the coat.

Soft silicone bristles

Rounded, flexible, no sharp wire pins. Gentle on the skin of nervous cats and sensitive pups.

USB rechargeable

One charge runs several grooming sessions. Light enough for one-handed use, small enough to live on a shelf.

Cat-safe, water only

No essential oils — many are toxic to cats. Plain water in the reservoir is all this needs.

"

Not actually steam. It's a fine cool mist — and that's the whole point.

The PawMist promise
How it compares

PawMist vs the brush you've already got

Most homes already have a brush. Whether PawMist earns shelf space depends on which type.

  PawMist Standard brush Slicker brush
Cool-mist function Yes No No
Bristle type Soft silicone Usually plastic Sharp wire pins
For nervous cats Gentle option Mixed Often disliked
Heavy double-coat shed Finishing only Limited Strongest option
Powered USB rechargeable No No
Typical UK price £14.95 £3–8 £8–15

For a heavy-coat husky in May, keep your slicker. For everyday upkeep on a short-haired cat, a nervous rescue, or a medium-coat dog between shed seasons, PawMist is the calmer tool.

How it works

Three steps. Two to three minutes.

1

Fill with water

Plain tap water — that's it. No essential oils, no shampoo, no scented water. Just water.

2

Press & brush gently

Fine mist releases through the bristles as you stroke. Work in the direction of the coat, short sessions per area.

3

Wipe & air-dry

Peel loose fur off the bristles between strokes. Empty the reservoir after use and let the brush air-dry.

Important · Cat safety

Water only. Don't add essential oils.

Many oils that are fine for dogs — lavender, tea tree, eucalyptus, citrus, peppermint — are toxic to cats, sometimes at very low doses. Cats lack the liver enzyme that processes these oils, and absorption through the skin or grooming is enough to cause harm.

This product is marketed elsewhere with "add your favourite essence." Don't. Plain water keeps the brush working and your cat safe.

Honest fit guide

Which coats this actually works on

Most products list every breed under "suitable for". We don't. Here's where it earns its keep, and where it doesn't.

Short-haired

Cats, terriers, pointers, beagles

Works well

Medium-coat

Cockers, retrievers in light shed

Daily upkeep

Long-haired

Huskies, samoyeds, GSDs in shed

Finishing only

Heavily matted

Old mats, dreadlock-like clumps

See a groomer
This is a between-baths upkeep tool, not a miracle. Nothing stops a pet shedding — it's biology. What this does reliably is catch more of the loose fur on the bristles before it lands on your sofa, your jumper, and your carpet.

Honest answers

Questions worth asking

Is the mist hot?
No. It's a cool fine mist. The product can't heat water — it's a small USB-charged battery brush, not a steam appliance. If you specifically wanted heated steam, this isn't that product, and we'd rather you find out here than after delivery.
Can I add essential oils, shampoo, or scented water?
No. Water only. Essential oils are toxic to cats and can irritate dog skin. Shampoo and conditioner will block the mist nozzle. If you want a scented coat refresh, that's a separate product — a pet-safe leave-in spray — used after brushing, not inside the brush.
How often should I use it?
A few times a week is enough for most pets. Daily during shed season for medium-coat dogs. Don't over-mist — the goal is a light damp, not a wet coat. Two to three minutes per body area is plenty.
Will it stop my dog shedding?
No. Nothing stops shedding — it's biology, not something a brush can change. What PawMist helps with is collecting loose fur during brushing so less of it ends up on your sofa.
Will it detangle a long-haired cat or dog?
Light tangles, yes — the mist softens fur enough that the silicone bristles can work through small knots without pulling. Serious mats, no. If your pet has a tight mat that's been there a while, a dematting comb or a groomer is the safer call.
How do I clean it?
Empty the reservoir after each use. Wipe the bristles with a damp cloth — fur lifts off easily once the silicone dries. Don't submerge the brush; the battery housing isn't waterproof. Let it air-dry before charging.
Green or Yellow — which should I pick?
Functionally identical. Yellow tends to sit better in kitchens; Green sits well in bathrooms and utility rooms. Both ship in the same timeframe. Pick the one you'll happily leave on a counter.

If the mist is weaker than you expected, or your pet's coat is heavier than the silicone bristles can handle — send it back. We'd rather know.

Excellent for my sensitive skin and rosacea
Another excellent product from this brand. I have type 1 rosacea on my cheeks, even when I avoid triggers (like red wine, warm weather, etc.), and very sensitive skin overall. I've been using the cicalfate serum from this brand for the sensitivity, but it didn't help the redness. After two weeks of using this twice daily, I noticed a significant difference. After a month, I had no redness unless I encountered a trigger. Even then, the intensity of the redness seemed less. I tried going without this product for a month when the first bottle ran out, and sadly, the redness started coming back within a cycle of weeks. I've got this on auto-delivery now, along with the cicalfate serum. I never want to be without it!

Best moisturizer for sensitive skin
I have very sensitive skin and have tried many products over the years. This is by far the best daily moisturizer. I don’t wear makeup other than under eye concealer. This keeps my skin looking and feeling great. Not greasy. One bottle lasts about a month. I have probably bought this 10 times in the past year.

Not as good as the antirougeurs cream
I used to use the Antirougeurs cream and loved it but since they no longer make it, I had to switch. I have been using the redness expert cream for a week and it makes my face even redder. I also started to break out. The texture is good but I don’t think it works like the other cream.

Really helps with the redness
Years ago, my dermatologist recommended this line whenever I had a problem with redness. The redness occurs when I spend time outside, even with sunscreen & a hat. When I perspire it irritates my skin & poof, redness. I started using this, once I found it on Amazon, & this really helps to relieve the pain, discomfort & burning sensation. It has a cooling affect on your skin. Until I found this brand I simply suffered until the irritated skin healed. I apply this at night, especially after being outside & sweating & the redness is gone in the morning. I plan to use this until I no longer need it.

Runny
Doesn't flare up my rosacea but does not reduce redness either. Less moisturizing and runnier than Antirougeurs FORT, which appears to be discontinued. Also dislike the bulky packaging. The squeeze tube took up less space in my travel bag.
