Influences on Harriet Backer's Artistic Style
Harriet Backer emerged as a prominent figure in the Norwegian Impressionism movement, which flourished in the late 19th century. Influenced by the natural beauty of Norway and the changing light conditions, Backer embraced a style that emphasized the interplay of light and color. Her exposure to the works of French Impressionists, such as Claude Monet and Pierre-Auguste Renoir, also shaped her artistic vision. This blend of local and international influences allowed her to create evocative scenes that resonate with viewers.Key Characteristics of Norwegian Impressionism
Norwegian Impressionism is characterized by its focus on everyday life, particularly the domestic sphere. Artists often depicted intimate moments, such as women engaged in household tasks, surrounded by the natural landscape. The use of vibrant colors and loose brushwork creates a sense of immediacy and emotional depth. Backer's "Drying the Laundry" exemplifies these traits, showcasing the beauty of mundane activities through a masterful application of light and color.Visual Analysis: Composition and Color Palette
Examining the Use of Light and Shadow
In "Drying the Laundry," Backer skillfully employs light and shadow to create a dynamic composition. The sunlight filters through the laundry, casting soft shadows that enhance the three-dimensionality of the scene. The interplay of light not only highlights the laundry but also symbolizes the warmth of domestic life.Color Symbolism in "Drying the Laundry"
Backer's color palette in "Drying the Laundry" is rich and varied, featuring soft pastels and earthy tones. The whites and blues of the laundry evoke purity and freshness, while the warm hues of the background suggest comfort and familiarity. The spatial arrangement in "Drying the Laundry" is both balanced and engaging. Backer places the figures in a way that creates depth, drawing the viewer into the intimate setting. Simply the best makeup remover I have found for my sensitive skin and acne-prone. I use it to take my makeup off before Cerave cleanser for a super gentle double-cleanse, and it has significantly reduced my cystic acne breakouts.

Holy Grail Micellar Water
Size: 13.52 Fl Oz
This is my holy grail micellar water! My skin can be sensitive and reactive at times, and this product has never let me down. It has never irritated my eyes or skin. I use it to double cleanse, although sometimes I use only this micellar water followed by a quick splash of water. It does not leave a film and leaves my skin feeling nourished and happy.

but takes quiet a good amount of cotton balls
Size: 6.8 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
It removes makeup alright, but takes quiet a good amount of cotton balls. Haven't try it on waterproof makeup yet, but it does make make skin feels clean and isn't harsh.
Edit: Tried it for a couple of days, and here's the verdict: It can remove makeup, but you'll need a good amount of it on a cotton pad, and likely you'll use more than one. It feels nice while it is on the face, though it clean best with light makeup, and it takes me a couple of cotton balls to clean eyeliner and mascara. I needed to use moisturizer after it, because it make my skin feels dry. It doesn't take long, and definitely save more time than washing with soap and water, but it's a little bit of a hassle, too. Oh well, at least it's very convenient.
