Note From the Roaster

This is yet another stellar Geisha from our friend, Wilder Lasso (Lazo). We are excited to share another anaerobic washed lot from his farm, La Dinastía. In the cup we get white honey, intense lavender, and a distinct sweetness reminiscent of Froot Loops cereal.

  • Variety: Geisha
  • Country: Colombia
  • Region: San Adolfo, Huila
  • Process: Anaerobic Washed
  • Altitude: 1900 MASL
  • Producer: Wilder Lasso
  • Farm: La Dinastía
  • Roast Level: Light

In the cup

We taste beautiful florals like lavender and lilac with an underpinning white honey sweetness. This coffee has a distinct sweetness that reminds us of sugary Froot Loops cereal.

About The Producer

Wilder Lasso (or Lazo) is actually a veterinarian specialized in livestock farming. As the coffee price continued to decline in 2016 and his father fell seriously ill, he decided to bring the family farm up to speed together with his brother. Initially, their coffees scored between 80-83 points on the cupping scale, despite elaborate processes and preparations. Wilder started examining soil samples and using targeted nutrients and fertilizers to neutralize the pH value, thereby increasing the availability of nutrients for the coffee trees. He refers to this as precision agriculture.

Processing

To ensure optimal results, the coffee trees are first provided with nutrient-rich soil. Fully ripe and exceptionally large cherries are harvested and washed in water tanks to remove impurities and floating beans. After pulping the cherries, Wilder places them in blue fermentation tanks. The tanks are then filled with water and sealed, allowing the coffee to ferment for 120 hours. Once fermentation is complete, the coffee is fully washed and dried in marquesinas over 12 days. Wilder’s approach to anaerobic fermentation highlights what he calls the “true coffee character.” In anaerobic conditions, microorganisms work much slower compared to aerobic processes. While much of what occurs between picking and drying is often misclassified as fermentation (when it is technically oxidation), Wilder adheres to a precise anaerobic methodology.

Variety

This variety was originally collected from coffee forests in Ethiopia in the 1930s. From there, it was sent to the Lyamungu research station in Tanzania, and then brought to Centro Agronómico Tropical de Investigación y Enseñanza (CATIE) in Central America in the 1953, where it was logged as accession T2722. It was distributed throughout Panama via CATIE in the 1960s after it had been recognized for tolerance to coffee leaf rust. The plant's branches, however, were brittle and not favoured by farmers so it was not widely planted. The coffee came to prominence in 2005 when the Peterson family of Boquete, Panama, entered it into the "Best of Panama" competition and auction. It received exceptionally high marks and broke the then-record for green coffee auction prices, selling for over $20/pound.There is significant confusion about Geisha because there are multiple genetically distinct plant types that have been referred to as Geisha, many of which share similar geographic origins in Ethiopia. Recent genetic diversity analyses conducted by World Coffee Research confirm that Panamanian Geisha descendent from T2722 is distinct and uniform. It is associated with extremely high cup quality when the plants are managed well at high altitude, and is known for its delicate floral, jasmine, and peach-like aromas.

      MY DOG LOVES IT
      Size: 20.0"L x 20.0"W x 6.0''TH, Style: Round, Pattern Name: Bed
MY CHIHUAHUA WON'T GET OUT OF THIS BED! she loves it! from the first moment we brought it in and put it on the floor. she gently scratches at the sides and cuddles in with her blankey and likes she's not there. ohhh... great value for the price! nice size, big enough for both of my chihuahuas to lay in comfortably. soft, but very sturdy sides, the bottom is fluffy, padded very well. the outside bottom, there is a non stick covering so the bed doesn't scootch around on tile floor, it stays put.

      It's lasted
      Size: 20.0"L x 20.0"W x 6.0''TH, Style: Round, Pattern Name: Bed
I've had this bed for 5 years and it is still in great shape. Washes up in the washing machine just fine. My littlest dog absolutely loves it and is lost when our other bigger dog steals it. She barely fits in it but she loves it too. Ha! Good quality at a good price. Couldn't ask for more.

      My Puppy Loves It.
      Size: 20.0"L x 20.0"W x 6.0''TH, Style: Round, Pattern Name: Bed
I didn't know what to expect when I saw this advertised, but some reviews said that their puppy had chewed on it and it was still holding up with no holes. So, I decided to get it and see for myself. I have to say that my puppy loves it and chews on it and it is holding up very well. No holes yet and I suspect after all her chewing and no holes, there won't be any. Nice size for a 25 pound dog and smaller. Well built and nice looking bed. It has enough padding to make it soft for my puppy. I got it big enough, so she can grow into it, too. Well satisfied and I do recommend it.

      Great basic dog bed
      Size: 20.0"L x 20.0"W x 6.0''TH, Style: Round, Pattern Name: Bed
We really needed additional places for my dog to rest, besides hanging out on the furniture. He gets to be a little jerky and presumptuous, thinking he owns the joint when he lies all over the bed and couches. So the extra dog beds were necessary additions to the house. He took to this one right away. Sure, he still will try to sneak onto the human bed, the couch, the chair - especially when food is involved in the picture. But he does like this bed. The only real negative I have is that it's whitish on top. It shows dirt kind of easily and time will tell how well it will stand to multiple washings. It's soft. It's cushy. It looks pretty descent for a dog bed. He can curl up in it nicely and relax. Basically it does what it should and he seems relatively happy to hang out on it. Now, if Amazon could make a dog bed that could actually train the dog - that would be incredible!

Better than beds I've spent double the money on!
      Size: 20.0"L x 20.0"W x 6.0''TH, Style: Round, Pattern Name: Bed
This bed is actually amazing for the price. My chihuahua digs a hole through every bed he's ever had except this one. The bottom actually went flat before he was able to dig a hole into the fabric. But since its such a great bed, i cut open the bottom and restuffed it from the filling from an old pillow and stitched it back up so he can keep enjoying it. Abd if he eventually does dig a hole in it, ill be rebuying this same bed.
