We can still remember each brew of our last and only offering from German Ortiz (bourbon aji lot). We were absolutely stunned by the clarity and intensity of red fruits. We tasted raspberry, strawberry, and a caramel backbone that made the cup weighty with an effortless and balanced acidity glide. For us personally, it was an all-timer.

So, imagine our excitement when we saw a new coffee from German pop up on the BOTZ cupping table. This time it was a combo lot of pink bourbon and ombligon. Transparently, we’ve only had the opportunity to taste ombligon a few times. Each rendition was processed rather heavily (natural and anaerobic naturals), so we only had those data points when referencing the variety. What would the variety taste like in a more traditionally washed sense (we mean this rather earnestly, but we haven’t really seen or experienced the variety ever in a washed sense)? And how would it interact with our self-proclaimed favorite variety, pink bourbon?

All our questions were answered upon the first sips. With this combo lot, German has provided a unique cup profile and experience. From the pink bourbon, we get mini strawberries (we’re quite familiar with eating these…think strawberry multiplier), blood orange, and dense caramel. But the other flavors, we assume (not the best chemists, hehe), from the ombligon add the twist (thank you, Culinary Class Wars). There’s an exotic dark fruit pop, like black currant and blackberry. Intriguingly, we also get a candied melonus sensation like a honeydew Jolly Rancher (if such a thing existed, haha). This sensation is clean, crisp, and laser-like. In totality, German has fostered a lot that has rewired our flavor synapses. Dive deep and dissect its unique flavor profiles!
