• Moonstone is an Orthoclase, while Rainbow Moonstone is a form of colorless Labradorite. Both can have various colors, ranging from different shades of green and blue to pink and white. While Moonstone can be opaque, translucent or transparent, Rainbow Moonstone will always have a milky appearance.
• Moonstone can range from colorless to blue, peach, violet, green, pink, chocolate or gray with a silvery sheen. This iridescence is known as a "schiller", but in moonstone it is called adularescence. Clarity ranges from transparent to translucent.
