Cold rain at flowering caused very patchy fruit set in our Chardonnay blocks, this weather event heavily reducing the yield on the vines. Luckily this was a very localised event, and we were able to source Chardonnay from other parts of Hawke’s Bay. The rest of the season was full of warm sunny days ripening the grapes to perfection.

Made from a combination of different subregions and vineyards carefully selected for quality and flavour. The fruit was harvested and pressed quickly with minimal winemaking intervention to preserve fruit flavour. Once clear juice is racked off, a combination of selected and wild yeast is used for fermentation. Maturation on light yeast lees adds texture and flavour which is balanced by fresh natural acidity from the grapes. Bottled under screw cap to maintain freshness and integrity of the wine through to your glass.

From our origins in 1989, establishing both vineyard and winery, Alpha Domus was a pioneer in the renowned Bridge Pa Triangle Wine District of Hawke’s Bay. Alpha is derived from the first initials of the founding family members names in age descending order, Anthonius, Leonarda, Paulus, Henrikus and Anthonius, Domus is Latin for home.
