Artistic Context: The Impressionist Movement and Its Influence
Understanding Impressionism: Key Characteristics and Techniques
Impressionism emerged in the late 19th century as a revolutionary art movement. Artists sought to capture fleeting moments and the effects of light on landscapes. They often painted en plein air, or outdoors, to achieve a sense of immediacy. This style emphasized vibrant colors, loose brushwork, and an overall sense of spontaneity. The movement broke away from traditional techniques, focusing instead on the artist's perception of a scene.Julien Dupré: A Pioneer of Rural Impressionism
Julien Dupré was a significant figure in the Impressionist movement, particularly known for his depictions of rural life. Born in 1851, he dedicated his career to portraying the beauty of the French countryside. His works often highlight the connection between people and nature, showcasing the simplicity and richness of agricultural life. Dupré's paintings, including Haying, reflect his deep appreciation for the pastoral landscape and the labor that sustains it.Visual Analysis: Composition and Color Palette of Haying
Examining the Use of Light and Shadow in Haying
In Haying, Dupré masterfully employs light and shadow to create depth and dimension. The sunlight filters through the trees, casting dappled shadows on the golden hay. This interplay of light enhances the scene's vibrancy, drawing the viewer's eye across the canvas. The dynamic contrasts evoke a sense of movement, as if the viewer is witnessing the labor unfold in real-time.Color Symbolism: The Meaning Behind the Palette Choices
Dupré's color palette in Haying is rich and warm, dominated by earthy tones of gold, green, and brown. These colors symbolize the fertility of the land and the hard work of the farmers. The golden hues of the hay evoke feelings of abundance and prosperity, while the greens represent life and growth. This thoughtful use of color not only captures the essence of the harvest but also conveys a deeper connection to the land.Thematic Exploration: Labor and Nature in Haying

Analyzing Dupré's Signature Brushwork Style
Dupré's brushwork in Haying is characterized by its fluidity and spontaneity. He employs short, quick strokes to create a sense of movement and energy. This technique brings the scene to life, allowing viewers to feel the hustle and bustle of the harvest. The varied brushwork also adds texture, enhancing the overall visual experience.Texture and Depth: Creating a Lifelike Scene
The texture in Haying is palpable, with the roughness of the hay contrasting against the smoothness of the sky. Dupré skillfully layers paint to create depth, making the scene feel three-dimensional. This attention to detail invites viewers to immerse themselves in the painting, experiencing the sights and sounds of the harvest.Emotional Resonance: The Feelings Evoked by Haying
Capturing the Essence of Hard Work and Community
Haying evokes a strong sense of community and shared labor. The farmers, depicted in various stages of work, embody the spirit of cooperation and dedication. This painting resonates with viewers, reminding them of the value of hard work and the bonds formed through shared experiences. Daddy Dean & Allie Cat ❤️🔥
Format: Kindle
Reading before the series begins. Dean and Allie became my favorite couple of the series. I this book so much. It’s a physical fast burn with an emotional slow burn and I was entertained throughout. The banter, the denial, the jealousy, the building of trust, the emotional aspect later and the heartache.
Dean and Allie are so unapologetically themselves and 2 strong personalities clashing is fun. Dean needs someone like Allie to humble him. Each others perfect match.

Best in the series!
Format: Kindle
Let me start off by saying that The Deal - which was book #1 in the Off Campus Series was one of my top 5 picks of 2015. I could go on about the ways I loved that book, but I won't do that now---read my review here for a refresher.
I wanted to add that because The Score is now officially my favorite book in the series. This story completely SLAYED me! I was not ready for the level of TRILLNESS* Ms. Kennedy was going to be bringing to this story. what I want
This is Dean's book. You'll remember him from The Deal and The Mistake. He was the privileged. exhibitionist roommate of Garett, Logan and Tucker. In this story we learn that there is so much more to Dean that meets the eye. Allie is also a throwback character from The Deal- she is Hannah's best friend and roommate. We catch up with Allie as she is ending things with her on again/off again boyfriend. She goes to the house shared by Garrett and Co in search of a safe haven while she gets over her break up. She ends up getting much more than she bargained for.
Dean is drop dead gorgeous and knows it. He is used to women being a very easy field to navigate. Allie is tricky because she is Hannah's friend and because she really doesn't seem to want more than one night with Dean. looking at him
Dean pursues Allie pretty relentlessly and when she finally gives him an opening, he is determined to bust it wide open and get his girl. Watching the relationship develop between Dean and Allie is so sweet. There are moments that even weeks after reading the book make my heart beat a little faster to think about. We see the unexpectedly tender moments between these two where you get the feeling that they even surprise themselves. They fall in love with each other and once that train leaves the station there is not turning back whatsoeevr. You really get the sense that in Allie, Dean has found a women he never expected to...someone who is as honestly sexual as he is. like me
As with the other stories in this series, the sex is off the charts hot and the chemistry between the characters is palpable and exciting. Ms. Kennedy has a refreshingly modern and feminist approach to sex and relationships and it makes the characters VERY likable. Just like his roommates, Garrett and Logan, Dean has met the woman who makes him want to forsake all others. These young men find more than just love in these stories. They also find the courage of their convictions and make major decisions that will affect the rest of the their lives.
There is a big family dynamic in the story that introduces to Allie's father and Dean's family as well. We get to interact with some recurring background characters from the previous books. One of them, plays a HUGE role that let me feeling like I'd been punched in the gut. I was crying and asking "why" for so long after I finished this book.
Dean was such a pleasant surprise. He was not perfect by any means, and there are moments where you will feel disappointed in him. But he works hard, loves hard and has the desire to be a better person every day. I LOVED him. I loved Allie for hm and I absolutely LOVED this book. I would give it 5 more stars if I could.
*Trillness= Realness in Houston, TX slang!

Meaningful, Enjoyable and Uplifting
Format: Paperback
I don’t read a lot of novels, but after hearing recommendation after recommendation, I finally picked up Theo of Golden—and it absolutely lived up to the hype. Alan Levi tells a story that is inspiring, wholesome, thoughtful, and genuinely fun to read. The characters felt real, the writing was engaging, and the story carried deeper themes about life, purpose, and relationships without ever feeling forced. I also know Alan through Young Life, which made reading the book even more special for me personally. If you’re looking for a meaningful novel that is both enjoyable and uplifting, I highly recommend this book.

a swim through literary magic
Format: Kindle
Reading this book reminds me of jumping into a pool of water and the way the water tickles your skin as you descend into it, then surrounds you and totally encompasses you in its liquid wonder.
There is so much here: beautiful metaphors that conjure up both visual images and the emotions that accompany it. Wonderful character development: presented with gentleness, respect and grace. An intricate plot that carries the reader along lightly and buoyantly, not calling attention to itself, but carrying through to the end. The book itself is a portrait of Theo, in keeping with the portrait style described within.
