Where smooth leathers emphasise the shoe's architecture, the pebbled surface absorbs it — the buckle straps, the cap, the sweep of the vamp read as a single resolved mass rather than a series of components. The grain is tight and consistent, the colour a deep, unsentimental brown that neither asks for attention nor fails to command it. Gold hardware was the right choice here: warm against the cool depth of the leather, understated rather than decorative.
