A glass of quiet depth and contemplative beauty, the Edo Kiriko Handcrafted Ink Blue Cloud Whisky Glass renders the soft drama of ink clouds into hand-cut crystal. A subtle ink-blue hue, neither black nor purely blue, gives the piece the gravity of a sumi-e painting — and every facet catches light like the gleam of brush ink still wet on rice paper.
Wooden Gift Box Included: Presented in a wooden gift box, this premium whisky glass is ready for gifting, collecting, or display in a refined home bar. The box adds a more complete presentation for whisky lovers, anniversaries, groomsmen gifts, housewarmings, and special occasions.
Inspired by Sumi-e — The Art of Ink
The depth of color in this glass draws from sumi-e (墨絵), the centuries-old tradition of ink wash painting that taught Zen monks and master artists to evoke entire landscapes — clouds, mountains, water — using only ink, water, and restraint. The ink-blue hue captured in this crystal carries that same quiet authority: deep without darkness, present without weight. Look closely and the surface reveals soft "cloud" patterns within the cuts, as if a brush had drifted across the body of the glass moments before it cooled.
Where Pigment Meets Cut — The Kise (被せ) Technique
The color is no surface coating. Achieved through the traditional kise (被せ) overlay technique, a thin layer of ink-blue crystal is fused over a clear base; when the artisan cuts deep enough, the underlying clarity reveals itself as fine, bright lines — creating the contrast between cloud-color and clear sky that defines the design. The deeper the cut, the brighter the light beneath.
Hand-Cut Through Patient Tradition
Each cut is shaped by hand against a spinning wheel through tens of thousands of careful strokes. The dense, faceted pattern catches light from every angle, transforming the glass from a static vessel into a quiet kinetic object — one that shifts and gleams with the slightest movement of the hand. A glass made for slow, considered drinking.
Perfect For
Single Malt Scotch, Bourbon, Japanese whisky, aged spirits served neat or on the rocks, and crafted cocktails like the Old Fashioned. A refined gift for collectors of design, lovers of Zen aesthetics, students of calligraphy and ink painting, or anyone who values restraint, depth, and quiet sophistication.
