• Male Performers, Female Subject: Men in the Yoruba Community dance in pairs, wearing wooden, colorful masks that often feature serene, idealized Female faces.
  Purpose: The dances are meant to appease, honor, and entertain the powerful Female Forces in Society.
  Costume Details: Dancers wear costumes that often include padded, exaggerated breasts and buttocks to emulate the Female Form.
  Female Leadership: Despite the male dancers, the Gelede Society is governed by Women, and a Female Priestess often leads the Ceremonies.
