'Enraging ...superb' JOHN BANVILLE, Guardian'Compelling, measured and deeply felt' ANNE ENRIGHT'A terrific unearthing of Ireland's shadowland. A landmark book' RORY CARROLL'Remarkable' LARUA HACKETT , The Times Following independence in 1922, Ireland began to chase a dream: to become the perfect Catholic nation. But purity had a price.

Throughout the twentieth century, thousands of women and girls who did not conform – the wayward, the poor, the disabled, the abused – were sent to the Magdalene Laundries. Each was perceived to have fallen in some way. Once locked inside, their hair was shorn off, their names were erased – and then they were put to work.

They washed, they scrubbed and they prayed, labouring in an attempt to salvage their souls. This remains one of the darkest and most misunderstood periods of recent history. Published to coincide with the thirtieth anniversary of the last Laundry’s closure, The Fallen is the forgotten story of the Magdalene Laundries, told through the voices of the women who endured them, the nuns who presided over them and the communities that lived alongside them.

Unflinching and compassionate, Louise Brangan draws on archives and survivors’ testimonies to dismantle long-held myths about what the Laundries were, who was sent to these places of violence and secrecy, and why. As we move from the past into the present, Brangan compels us not only to confront this shameful history, but to ask a deeper question: what do we choose to remember?'Critical, informed and beautifully written' MÁIRÉAD ENRIGHT'Breaking silence is a catalyst for change' CAELAINN HOGANWinner of the 2024 Royal Society of Literature Giles St Aubyn Award

Best Plates Ive ever known!
Style: 10 Inch, Size: 172 Count (Pack of 1), Style: 10 Inch, Size: 172 Count (Pack of 1)
If you’re tired of the "double-plate shimmy" where you have to stack two flimsy plates just to survive a barbecue, the Dixie Ultra 10-Inch Plates are a total game-changer. This 172-count bulk pack is the gold standard for anyone who actually likes to pile on the food. Why They’re Worth It: True Strength: The "3X Stronger" claim isn't just marketing fluff. These can handle a massive helping of steak, potato salad, and corn on the cob without folding under pressure. Soak-Proof Shield: They feature a high-quality coating that keeps grease and sauces from leaking through to your lap or your table. Microwave Safe: Unlike some cheaper alternatives, these don't get soggy or "wilt" when you're reheating leftovers. Value Size: Getting 172 plates (divided into 4 convenient packs) means you're set for multiple parties, holidays, or just those nights when you really don't want to do the dishes. Bottom Line: These are the "heavy lifters" of the paper plate world. They’re large enough for a full dinner and tough enough to handle the messiest meals. Highly recommended for anyone who values durability over price-point flimsy alternatives.

Very sturdy
Style: 10 Inch, Size: 172 Count (Pack of 1)
When we go camping, we use these Dixie plates a lot. They’re very sturdy and the cleanup is easy Peezy. The design is bright and cheerful are easy to use. It’s the great size for dinner plates and they also have smaller size plates as well as bowls. They’re very durable and we’ll hold up on heavy foods. We always keep a good supply on hand because when you’re on vacation, you don’t want to wash the dishes. They are great you’re using them and you throw them away or you can burn them.
