Offering them a manmade unit encourages them to remain in the area, and this specifically designed roost perfectly meets their nesting needs. A 4" wide and 3" tall, oval opening provides passage to small ducks, and it sits high on the deep box to discourage predation. Once installed, a slanted roof fully covers the home, protecting the interior from rain, while drainage slots on the base eradicate excess water. Ventilation slots beneath this roof prevent nestlings from overheating, while the 0.75" thick, pine construction offers additional insulation. The rough hewn wood on the interior of the abode, combined with an attached ladder on the inside front panel, make it easy for ducklings to climb out of the box when ready. For added convenience, one of the item's side panels opens in two latched sections: the top for observation and the bottom for seasonal cleaning. The included bag of wood chips is a boon for these waterfowl, assisting them in building a nest and creating a stable spot for the eggs. A metal hanger on the back of the home helps you secure it against a tree or wall, or the item may be post mounted with an adapter (not included) for placement near a lake or pond.
