Unveiling the Artist: Philip Wilson Steer and His Impressionist Legacy

Steer's Artistic Journey: From Early Influences to Impressionism

Philip Wilson Steer, born in 1860, emerged as a prominent figure in the British Impressionist movement. His early exposure to the works of renowned artists like Claude Monet and Edgar Degas shaped his artistic vision. Steer studied at the prestigious Slade School of Fine Art, where he honed his skills in capturing light and color. His journey reflects a deep commitment to exploring the beauty of nature, particularly through floral subjects.

Notable Techniques: Brushwork and Color Palette in Steer's Art

Steer's technique is characterized by loose, expressive brushwork that brings his subjects to life. He often employed a vibrant color palette, using bold strokes to create dynamic contrasts. In "Hydrangeas," the interplay of blues, pinks, and whites showcases his mastery of color theory. This approach not only highlights the flowers' natural beauty but also evokes a sense of movement and vitality.

Hydrangeas: A Floral Symphony Captured on Canvas

Hydrangeas hold rich symbolism across various cultures. They often represent gratitude, grace, and beauty. In Victorian England, these flowers were associated with heartfelt emotions, making them a popular choice for bouquets. Steer's choice to depict hydrangeas reflects a deep appreciation for their delicate charm and emotional resonance.

Color Theory in Hydrangeas: The Vibrant Hues of Nature

The color palette in "Hydrangeas" is a testament to Steer's understanding of color theory. The soft blues and pinks create a serene atmosphere, while the lush greens of the foliage provide a grounding contrast. This harmonious blend not only captures the essence of the flowers but also invites viewers to experience the tranquility of a blooming garden.

Composition and Style: Analyzing the Elements of Hydrangeas

Balance and Harmony: The Arrangement of Flowers and Foliage

Steer's composition in "Hydrangeas" exemplifies balance and harmony. The careful arrangement of flowers and leaves creates a sense of unity. Each element complements the others, drawing the viewer's eye across the canvas. This thoughtful composition enhances the overall aesthetic, making the painting a true masterpiece of floral art.

Light and Shadow: Creating Depth in Steer's Floral Composition

Light plays a crucial role in Steer's work. In "Hydrangeas," he skillfully uses light and shadow to create depth. The dappled sunlight filtering through the leaves adds dimension to the flowers, making them appear almost three-dimensional. This technique not only enhances the visual appeal but also evokes a sense of realism that invites viewers to step into the scene.

Healed my broken skin
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I’ve been using Eucerin Advanced Repair Body Cream for my very dry skin, and it works great. It absorbs quickly, is not greasy, and keeps my skin moisturized all day. I also like that it is fragrance-free, so it does not irritate my sensitive skin. A little goes a long way, and the large jar lasts a long time. Highly recommend for anyone with dry skin.

I love this lotion so much. It makes my skin hydrated and soft. Before, my skin would be dry and crack away from each other. My friends and some online dermatologists recommended this and it has been extremely helpful. If you use a scented lotion. Wear this lotion. Then the scented lotion and then the body oil. Seems like a lot of steps but this will help your skin in the future and will result in less dermatologist visits. It’s very soft and the first ingredient is water meaning it’s a water based moisturiser so the consistency is very good!

Always a Favorite of Mine
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
This lotion is fantastic for dry skin. It moisturizes without feeling greasy, and it absorbs well so you’re not walking around feeling like you just dipped your arms in oil. I really like that it’s unscented, which makes it great if you’re sensitive to fragrances or just don’t want your lotion competing with your perfume. It leaves skin feeling soft and hydrated for hours. I’ve tried a lot of lotions over the years, but this one does a really good job when your skin is seriously dry and needs real moisture. Overall, a great everyday lotion that actually works. My skin definitely approves.

Problem finally solved! This stuff works.
Size: 16 Ounce (Pack of 1)
I'm 60 and have very dry skin despite eating healthful food and drinking plenty of water. I've tried every moisturizer available and I've finally found one that leaves my skin hydrated. It's the perfect thickness -- not too thick like a paste and not a thin lotion -- so it's emollient and soaks in without tugging on my skin during application. This will be my after shower body lotion from now on. I'm wearing shorts and sleeveless tops again! 🥰

I'm impressed. It's very good stuff
Size: 16.9 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
I'm finding that menopause skin is very, very dry skin. Combine that with a harsh winter and my skin was in much worst shape than normal. I usually had noticeably dry skin on my legs & arms but winter made it itchy & more flakey. I started using the Eucerin calming formula but that did nothing for the dryness but did moderately help lessen the itching. I got online to see what I could do for the flaking skin, add moisture and curb the itching without having to go to a dermatologist because I didn't think I had a major issue. My reading recommended alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) formula moisturizers and from reading amlactin was very popular and received high marks but I wanted to look at & try a couple of things before I committed to just one as it's likely this will become part of my regular skin care and I'd need an affordable option. I discovered the Eucerin AHA formula on Amazon, liked the reviews & decided why not try it. The price point was very good compared to amlactin. I received the Eucerin 12/14/2017 and have used it religiously twice a day. The flakiness subsided in a week and the itch only occurs on my back where I can't reach to apply it. This stuff has been wonderful to apply to my skin. My skin is no longer flaky or ashy & the rough patches are gone from my knees & elbows. This stuff is very heavy but it doesn't feel greasy to me because my skin soaks uses it in pretty quickly. I am not sure if I could use this in a hot, humid summer but for the current -20+ wind chills I'm living through, that heaviness is working in my favor. If you don't want to apply a heavy thick lotion to your skin or if that type of formula could cause a breakout, this isn't the moisturizer for you. It doesn't really have a smell to me. Once I apply it I only smell the scent of my bee & flower sandalwood soap. This lotion is not scented so that's a plus for me. Also unlike amlactin it does not contain parabens. I did order the amlactin and will try it after this is gone but it's likely I will continue with the Eucerin AHA formula. It has worked very well for me. I've not done price shopping for this locally so I can't add anything in terms of costs on Amazon versus brick&mortar. But if you can handle its heaviness I'd definitely recommend it.
