COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Configure & Administer Network Operating Systems course, a comprehensive program designed to equip you with the knowledge and skills required to effectively manage network operating systems (NOS). In this course, we will cover essential aspects of NOS, from installation to troubleshooting, ensuring you are well-prepared to handle various administrative tasks in a networked environment.

Firstly, we will introduce you to network operating systems, defining what they are and highlighting their importance in managing network resources. You will learn about different types of NOS, including Windows Server and Linux, and understand their roles in modern IT infrastructures.

Next, we will guide you through the installation process of common network operating systems. This includes pre-installation requirements, detailed installation steps for Windows Server and Linux, and post-installation configurations to ensure optimal performance and security.

User and group management is a critical aspect of NOS administration. You will learn how to create and manage user accounts, configure group policies, and implement user access controls to maintain a secure and organised network environment.

We will also cover file and print services, teaching you how to set up file shares, configure print servers, and manage permissions and quotas. These skills are essential for ensuring efficient resource sharing and access control within your network.

Configuring network services is another crucial component of NOS administration. You will gain hands-on experience in setting up and managing DHCP servers, DNS servers, and configuring web and FTP services, which are fundamental for network connectivity and resource access.

Security administration is paramount in protecting your network. You will learn to implement firewalls and VPNs, configure intrusion detection systems, and apply security patches and updates to safeguard your network against threats.

Understanding network protocols and services is essential for effective NOS management. We will cover TCP/IP and subnetting, configuring routing and remote access, and implementing Network Address Translation (NAT) to ensure efficient and secure network communication.

Performance monitoring and tuning will help you keep your network running smoothly. You will learn to monitor network performance, identify and resolve bottlenecks, and apply performance optimisation techniques to enhance network efficiency.

Backup and recovery are critical for data protection and disaster management. You will learn to set up backup services, plan and implement disaster recovery strategies, and test backup and recovery procedures to ensure data integrity and availability.

With the increasing importance of virtualisation and cloud integration, you will gain skills in configuring virtual machines, integrating with cloud services, and managing hybrid environments, which combine on-premises and cloud-based resources.

Scripting and automation are powerful tools for network administrators. You will be introduced to scripting languages such as PowerShell and Bash, learn to write scripts for common administrative tasks, and automate routine maintenance to increase efficiency.

Finally, troubleshooting and problem resolution are essential skills for any network administrator. You will learn to diagnose and resolve common network issues, use diagnostic tools and techniques effectively, and follow escalation procedures to address complex problems.

By the end of this course, you will have a solid foundation in configuring and administering network operating systems, equipped with practical skills and knowledge to excel in your role.

A book that makes you think!
Format: Paperback
This was a super good read, very imaginative. It dealt with identity, belonging, insecurities, family matters. The way it was written was unlike any book I’ve read this year.

The Possibilities
Format: Kindle
Despite its potential, this book ultimately failed to resonate with me. I found myself repeatedly compelled to put it down, as the focus on the empowerment aspect was overshadowed by the narrative’s preoccupation with re-triggering ourselves through the perpetuation of a harmful lie. This lie, which has tragically cost many Black men their lives and livelihoods, diverted our attention from the more profound themes of rebuilding culture, redefining ourselves, and creating a new world. Instead of exploring the possibility of a beautiful utopia, we were subjected to a process of de-centering ourselves and centering them, their likeness, and the relentless pursuit of proving our worth. While there were indeed wise words that moved me, I was left questioning the purpose of dedicating so much time to those who did not share our sentiments. Who are these individuals who required our convincing, and who are we who felt compelled to do so? I found Sydney, her family, and the inhabitants of Orange Beach to be unlikable characters. I fear that the plot was compromised when the focus shifted to inclusion.

Wow! Loved it!
Format: Paperback
Wow, I don't even know what to say about this book, but well done. I was a little bit mystified in the beginning. Our FMC and MMC definitely had me feeling a specific sort of way. A father, who was released from prison after "The Event" where all the white people in the Nation killed themselves, struggles with his identity. His daughter, Sidney, a biracial young adult who was raised by her white family, struggles with the fact that things she was taught were not necessarily true, and finds it hard to connect to her blackness. This is a tumultuous story of a beautifully written adaptation to an entirely new way of life. I didn't necessarily agree with certain ideations of the author, who in his book, claimed that there was a lost feeling after "The Event," but that's just personal experience, and I think that many black people would adapt. This book brings up so many feelings. How would I feel if "The Event" happened? Now that the "system" is dismantled? This book brings up dialogue and conversation. Amazingly well done. I'm still pondering. I know that this will be something I think about often. Wow. Very seldom do I tear up at books, but the representation of black joy in this story genuinely made my heart feel full. The love that when black people come together with nothing but amazing energy, was described so adequately in this book. I could feel it myself. And to that, I have to applaud Cebo Campbell.
