4R100 Transmission Cooler Bypass Delete – Full Flow Modification (1999–2003 Ford)

If you’re upgrading your transmission cooling system, deleting the factory cooler bypass tube is only half the fix. This modification allows 100% transmission fluid flow to the cooler, eliminating one of the most overlooked restrictions in the 4R100 automatic transmission.

🔥 Why Remove the Factory Bypass Tube?

From 1999–2003, Ford equipped the 4R100 transmission with an external cooler bypass tube designed to reroute fluid back to the transmission until operating temperature was reached.

Unfortunately:

  • These bypass tubes commonly fail, blocking fluid flow to the cooler

  • Even when functioning correctly, the bypass never fully closes

  • As a result, not all transmission fluid is ever sent through the cooler

The end result is elevated transmission temperatures and increased risk of premature failure.

🔥 The Hidden Restriction Most Kits Miss:

Many bypass delete kits remove the external tube but do not address the restriction inside the banjo bolt.

Inside the factory banjo bolt is:

  • A spring and check ball

  • Designed to work in conjunction with the bypass tube

  • Restricts up to 75% of fluid flow to the cooler

Once the bypass tube is removed, this internal restriction is no longer necessary — yet it continues to choke off fluid flow unless addressed.

⚙️ What This Modification Does:

  • Eliminates the internal check ball and spring restriction

  • Allows full, unrestricted fluid flow to the transmission cooler

  • Maximizes the effectiveness of upgraded or oversized coolers

  • Reduces transmission operating temperatures

  • Improves long-term transmission reliability

🚨 Why This Matters:

Heat is the leading cause of transmission failure. Even the best transmission cooler cannot do its job if fluid flow is restricted. Removing both the bypass tube AND the internal banjo bolt restriction ensures your cooler actually receives the flow it was designed for.

🚗 Applications:

  • 1999–2003 Ford trucks equipped with the 4R100 automatic transmission

If you’re serious about protecting your transmission, this full-flow cooler modification is a critical step that ensures your cooling system works the way it should — with no shortcuts and no bottlenecks.

Great lip balm
I have had chapped lips for most of my adult life. This product has been the first product that I have used, where my lips are not cracked, peeling or dry. There is no smell or taste, very neutral. I had to use the balm frequently in the beginning, now maybe only several times a day. One tube last a long time I highly recommend this lip balm.

Just ok
These are just simply too large to use as chapstick unless you do both top and bottom at the same time ( no thank you). I threw them away. 3 stars because it appears to be a good product, but they got the packaging all wrong to call it chap stick.

Replaced Vaseline - Far superior product
I received this as a gift a few months ago and it's all I use now. I use it on my lips and on my neck wrinkles. Do not leave it in a warm environment, like hot car or pants pockets, it will get very soft. If it does get soft, i just dab it on ranther than rolling/wiping on. Also its best to roll it down when not in use, but not necessary. I used to be addicted to Vaseline products for my lips and this is far superior in many ways.

Not really good as a lip balm
It is way too melty or liquidy when applying. It's like putting oil on your lips. No staying power. I actually ended using it more as a skin moisturizer like a lotion. It's pretty good for that. I haven't even tried taking it with me in my pocket as I think it'll turn to a liquid like coconut oil down here in sunny hot Florida. .
