A journey into the golden past of mentalism! In the late 80's and early 90's, Richard contributed a number of effects to Bascom Jones' brilliant Magick magazine. After over 30 years, and with the full blessing of George Robinson (the publisher of The Complete Magick), Richard has decided to revisit these routines in order to update the methods and devise alternative approaches for today's modern world. Remember, every one of these effects are Richard's original creations and most have not seen print outside of Magick. With the exception of one routine which uses Richard's Stainless Steel Blindfold (which many of you have already), all of these offerings require no special props and can easily be made up at home. Even with those which required articles no longer readily available, Richard tells you where to find them or gives you substitute materials to use!
But there's more - so much more! Many people consider these years to be the golden age of modern mentalism. Some of the greatest performers of all time were active and creating incredible effects. Kreskin was on television constantly and Uri Geller was confounding the world with his stunts. Ronnie Gann was still performing and Bob Cassidy was stunning audiences everywhere. Al Mann was pumping out numerous books and effects as were a ton of other inventors. There was a certain mood in the air that these were special times in mentalism.
Along with all that, there was almost a universal understanding of what a mentalist should look like and how he should act. Mentalism was direct and straight-forward and audiences truly believed that there were people in the world who really could read minds. These are the times Richard talks about. Along with the incredible effects explained in this book. Richard will take you back in time so you can feel the mood the way he did!
There are nine routines that appeared in Bascom's Magick plus one more Richard donated to the final index volume of The Complete Magick, bringing the total number of effects in Beyond Magick to ten. Here's just an idea of what's presented:
- Place two ungimmicked dice in a film canister, have someone shake it up, and divine the numbers on top of each die without touching it!
- A stage Swami effect where your hands are empty before and after the reveal!
- Turn your business card case into a perfect peek case!
- A fantastic routine where you show your audience, on your Facebook page on their own phones, what three-digit number someone would freely call out!
- Amazing gimmicks to allow you to mind read anywhere!
- A perfect design duplication routine using just an index card and subtlety!

This is one “under the radar” gem!!
Size: Large, Color: Coral
This is one “under the radar” gem!! Very strong internal squeaker and way tougher than it looks. My big 125lb Shepard-Husky mix gave it heck, then made it his new buddy. He’ll occasionally give it the business but on the whole, it’s surprisingly tough and my big boy loves it. Nice price!!

Cute but small
Size: Large, Color: Skinny Green
Cute stuffy and has not yet ripped. While my dogs plays with it, the toy is a bit small for him. For reference he is 120lbs.

Powerful little ball
The ball is well designed, made, and is durable. It is functional and easy to turn on. It has a good amount of power and movement to capture my pets attention. It moves easily on wooden, laminated, and carpeted floors. The material is hard which makes it not break down easily when bitten or chewed. The colors are appealing and attractive.

Too big and heavy for my dog. Spins more often than it rolls. Good material.
The first time we used this, which honestly took a bit too long to figure out, our dog was excited and immediately kicked it under the couch. I guess that makes sense, you really have no idea where this thing is going to end up. I did fish it out after a bit, and it needed a charge. After reassembly, the ball would only spin in circles until it was hit. That's probably just as well, as it was still engaging and less likely to roll away.
The issue is this is large and heavy, larger than a tennis ball and heavier than it looks. That's fine for big dogs, but it isn't great for small dogs like Boston terriers or frenchies, and definitely useless for toy breeds. My dog was able to lift it with the module removed, and that's how he prefers it now. The outer TPU layer is strong and grippy, so it's not a total waste. It looks a little rougher than the pictures appear but my dog doesn't mind. I get it... I"ve worked with TPU before and it's a temperamental material.
The price is quite low, but not if you aren't getting use out of the mechanical aspect. This is a good value for the right dog: a medium dog with a snout - maybe a sheltie; definitely a golden. For others, a smaller version would be nice.

Hands free toy!!!
This is one of my dogs absolute favorite toys. I have a German shepherd husky mix that is notorious for destroying his toys. This one has stood the test !!! Have had it for about a month and we have played rough with it. The battery lasts forever. It’s such an easy toy too. Stuck under the couch?? It’ll eventually bounce its way out. Dog nudging and you need some space, pop this this on and it’s like a magic trick lol. My dog gets so excited when I pick it up because he knows I’ll turn it on. Sometimes, he will bounce it hoping it will turn on lol. Stronglyyyyyyy recommend.
