Audiolab 7000CDT CD Transport at Vinyl Sound Toronto Canada

The 7000CDT is a dedicated CD transport and USB HDD player from Audiolab (Cambridge, United Kingdom), available at Vinyl Sound in Toronto, Canada. Positioned between the 6000CDT and the flagship 9000CDT, the 7000CDT brings the same core transport engineering — high-precision optical system, read-ahead electronic data buffer, differential line driver coaxial output, and high-accuracy crystal oscillator master clock — into the more compact 78mm chassis shared with the 7000A integrated amplifier and 7000N Play streamer. Improvements over the 6000CDT include a new transport mechanism, USB HDD playback for MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files, and a new full-colour IPS LCD display for at-a-glance track and format information. The result is a disc transport that delivers vanishingly low jitter, THD below 0.002%, and class-leading digital signal extraction in a format that pairs perfectly with the 6000, 7000, and 8300 series components.

High-Precision Transport Mechanism and Jitter Control

The 7000CDT applies the same core engineering philosophy as the 9000CDT to a more compact and accessible chassis. The high-precision optical system reads ahead of real-time playback, storing data in an electronic buffer before sending it to the digital outputs. This pre-read approach allows the mechanism to retry any problematic area of a disc before that data is needed at the output stage, enabling the 7000CDT to play scratched and damaged CDs that defeat conventional mechanisms without buffering. The coaxial S/PDIF output is driven by a differential line driver rather than a standard single-ended output, ensuring the digital signal travels to the receiving DAC with maximum noise immunity across the interconnect cable. A high-accuracy crystal oscillator master clock governs the timing of both the coaxial and optical outputs, maintaining vanishingly low jitter for a stable, coherent digital signal that reduces digital distortion at the DAC stage. The transport mechanism sits within its own electromagnetically shielded enclosure with a dedicated power supply, and the low-friction loading tray and sturdy aluminium chassis work together to absorb and dissipate mechanical vibration from the high-spin-velocity disc motor before it reaches the sensitive optical and digital circuitry.

USB HDD Playback, 12V Trigger, and 7000 Series Integration

A rear-mounted USB Type-A connection extends the 7000CDT's capabilities beyond physical disc playback, supporting MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files from FAT12, FAT16, and FAT32 formatted USB storage devices and flash drives. A 12V trigger input enables automated power-on activation from a compatible preamplifier or integrated amplifier, and an auto-standby function can be enabled or disabled according to preference. The full-colour IPS LCD display presents track details, folder structure, format information, and system settings with adjustable screen brightness for comfortable viewing in any lighting environment. At 444 x 322 x 78mm, the 7000CDT shares the exact chassis height of the 7000A and 7000N Play, making it the correct visual and physical match for a 7000 series stack. It is equally at home paired with the 6000A MkII and 6000CDT's stablemates, or with 8300 series components, for a matched multi-source system.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is the Audiolab 7000CDT?

The Audiolab 7000CDT is a dedicated CD transport and USB HDD player from Audiolab (Cambridge, UK), built around a high-precision optical system with a read-ahead electronic data buffer, a differential line driver coaxial output, and a high-accuracy crystal oscillator master clock. It delivers coaxial and optical digital outputs at 44.1kHz with THD below 0.002%, plays MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files from USB storage, and includes a 12V trigger input and configurable auto-standby in a chassis matched to the 7000A and 7000N Play.

What is the difference between the Audiolab 7000CDT and the 9000CDT?

Both the 7000CDT and the 9000CDT use the same core transport engineering — read-ahead digital buffer, differential line driver coaxial output, high-accuracy crystal oscillator master clock, and electromagnetically shielded transport enclosure with a dedicated power supply. The principal differences are chassis size and display. The 9000CDT uses the taller 89mm chassis with the larger 4.3-inch 800 x 480 pixel IPS LCD display matching the 9000A, while the 7000CDT uses the 78mm chassis with a smaller colour display matching the 7000A and 7000N Play. The 9000CDT is also heavier at 5.74kg vs. 5.5kg. Both provide coaxial and optical outputs and USB-A playback. The 7000CDT also adds a 12V trigger input and auto-standby that are not listed in the 9000CDT's specification.

What is the difference between the Audiolab 7000CDT and the 6000CDT?

The 7000CDT improves on the 6000CDT with a new transport mechanism, the addition of USB HDD playback for MP3, WMA, AAC, and WAV files, and a new full-colour IPS LCD display replacing the 6000CDT's more basic display. The 6000CDT uses a slot-loading mechanism borrowed from the 8300CD, while the 7000CDT uses a tray-loading mechanism shared with the 9000CDT. Both transports use a differential line driver on the coaxial output and a crystal oscillator master clock for low-jitter digital output.

Does the Audiolab 7000CDT have a built-in DAC?

No. The 7000CDT is a pure transport — it reads the disc and outputs the raw digital bitstream via coaxial S/PDIF or optical TosLink, performing no internal digital-to-analogue conversion. It is designed to be paired with any amplifier or preamplifier that includes digital inputs, such as the Audiolab 7000A, 6000A MkII, 9000A, 9000Q, or a standalone DAC such as the Audiolab D7 or D9. Keeping transport and DAC functions separate allows each stage to be upgraded independently.

Can the Audiolab 7000CDT play scratched or damaged CDs?

Yes. The 7000CDT's read-ahead electronic data buffer pre-reads disc sectors before they are needed at the output stage. When the optical system encounters a problematic area, it can retry the read and fill the buffer before that data is due for output, allowing the 7000CDT to play many discs with surface damage, scratches, or fingerprints that would cause conventional transports without a buffer to skip or fail entirely.

How does the Audiolab 7000CDT compare to the Cambridge Audio CXC V2?

The Audiolab 7000CDT and Cambridge Audio CXC V2 are both dedicated CD transports with coaxial and optical outputs aimed at the audiophile separates market. The 7000CDT adds USB-A HDD playback, a 12V trigger input for automated system activation, a configurable auto-standby function, and a full-colour IPS LCD display with adjustable brightness — none of which are present on the CXC V2. The CXC V2 uses a slot-loading mechanism and is slightly more compact. The 7000CDT integrates visually and operationally into the full Audiolab 7000 and 6000 series system, while the CXC V2 pairs naturally with Cambridge Audio components.

Best Steam Mop for your $$
Color: White
I bought the Black and Decker steam mop 9 months ago. Initially, I agreed with most of the concerns until I learned the problem usually was me and not the mop. For example, the electric cord to short. Yes, but then I learned to coordinate my mopping with the locations of my outlets. Now cord length is perfect! Even wrapping the electric cord after use turned out OK when I learned to secure the plug end at the top of the handle first, then looping the remaining cord around the hook a couple of times. No more problem. This mop doesn't last. My first mop broke (steamer) with two weeks of use. B & D replaced it. Now, I know to refill the tank before it goes dry. Conclusion: I think the B & D mop is the best value on the market for steam cleaning household floors!

DO NOT BUY - NOT USER FRIENDLY
Color: White
This mop has the worst design and cheaply made. I do not recommend buying it. Cons: the cord is too short; there is no place on the mop to wind up the cord when you put it away. The cord just flops all over the floor. HOW CHEAP IS IT NOT TO PUT HOOKS ON IT SO THE CORD CAN BE WOUND UP? The mop does not stand on its own. It goes straight to the floor no matter what position you put it in it will not hold an upright position. It lays in the floor. The water compartment does not come off the mop. You have to pick the whole mop up and hold it under the faucet to fill. Or lay it on the floor and get a glass of water to fill. Makes a mess. One more big gripe - THERE ARE NO SETTINGS OTHER THAN ON /OFF AND THOSE BUTTONS ARE WERID. There is no high, med, OR low setting. Lastly the mop pad in the photos was not the one it came with. It had one very thin like disposable one. PROS- NONE. I RETURNED IT .

5 month review- still a favorite!
Color: White, Color: White
I purchased this steam mop 5 months ago and it is still one of my favorite purchases. I have used it every week 1-2 times per week and it still works great! My house has wood flooring throughout, two cats and a lot of traction. I can finally relax knowing my floors are clean and sanitized! It heats up very quickly and the cord is long enough to do large sections of floor at a time. I highly recommend this purchase! Especially if you have pets or kids.

I spent the $20 I saved on stuff to make this thing functional-ish
Color: White
The only reason this is getting three stars is because I do like the ability to shut off the steam and also it puts out the perfect amount of water and cleans well. For the bad, the design is terrible in four important ways as mentioned in other reviews (which I wish I had read before purchase so my fault). 1. This thing will not stand in its own unless in a very particular position and even then a slight gust of wind sends it toppling. 2. The one hook cord storage has to be the stupidest design I have ever seen. I did buy a command hook so I could wind the cord so that takes care of that issue (other than no notch to secure the plug to the cord). 3. The cord is not long enough but again I remedied this with a 6ft extension cord though I’m sure this is probably not recommended somewhere in the instructions so I take my own risk. 4. I did not like the pad included but have a ton from my old Shark steam mop (RIP) and they work well enough with this mop so it’s not completely useless. I would not recommend this mop to anyone. It is a bit cheaper than the Shark mop I was looking to replace but wish I wouldn’t have let my cheap side win and it’s spent the extra $20 to get a mop I know I like.
