Created by Jane Lee McCracken for the major exhibition Making Paradise: Exploring the concept of Eden through Art & Islamic Garden Design 2021 at the Aga Khan Centre Gallery, London, Dear Hoopoe is the first design for her ceramic tile diptych which features her original Biro drawings.

Inspired by Attar's 12th century poem The Conference of the Birds, Dear Nightingale depicts one of the world’s most famous songbirds. The tile pattern Jane chose as the foundation of this design is from Shah-i-Zinda and entwined with roses which symbolise the nightingale’s representation in the poem as the lover. However the nightingale known for its alluring song remains tight beaked as it listens to the Hoopoe’s words. Interlaced through the pattern is a Green Peafowl which represents another member of the avian cast, the peacock. Jane selected this species as they too are exquisite yet unlike the peacock, they are endangered, which reflects her interest in threatened species. Also featured is a Dead Sea Sparrow and a Turtle Dove another species that is listed globally as vulnerable.

Jane's meticulous drawings take several months to research and make. Sumptuous signed and numbered limited edition archival pigment print, made by one of the very best printmakers in the industry.

Fun for a few minutes but beware!

I have 3 dogs so looking for multipacks of the same style toy is great so there is less squabbling between who gets what toy. I have a border collie puppy, a 4 yr old Irish wolfhound cross and a 17 yr old border collie. These toys were loved by each one of my dogs. The toys are floppy and easy to squeak in the octopus head. So much so that my elderly boy could happily play and make it squeak. He even collected the toys up and took them to his bed! My puppy ran off bounding through the house squeaking the octopus' head with the tentacle-legs flying everywhere as she ran around, so the entertainment value is pretty high! My Irish wolfhound loved the crinkling on the tentacles of the octopus and went straight for tearing into the orange toy pulling out the plastic, then pulling out the squeaker. The toy did ok with a game of tuggy (tug-o-war) with him and this toy would have been a great reward during a training session. The fabric is not very tough so this is not a toy for aggressive chewers. Legs were easily chewed off and unfortunately were ingested by one of my dogs which caused them to vomit repeatedly throughout the night. Same with the squeaker, they are thin, soft plastic. So if your dog is a voracious chewer, give these a miss. What I liked about these toys: 1. They were reasonably priced for 3 toys 2. These are not small toys! They are great for medium and large dogs. 3. Very fun for the dogs to play with. 4. No stuffing to clean up What I didn't like: 1. Toys are not durable for tough tuggers. 2. The toys are not reinforced for chewing. 3. Squeaker not strong enough. The toys just didn't last. There was maybe 15 minutes of play time at most before the chewing and destruction of the toys really got started. I might buy these again if I can give my puppy better supervision for her chewing these and trying to stop her from ingesting the pieces she is chewing off put I probably won't buy them again. There's too much plastic that can be eaten with the crinkly plastic in the legs.
