Barnstormers were daredevil pilots who roamed the countryside during the heady days of the roaring twenties, bringing aerial excitement to a public thirsty for this wild new thrill.
Organically grown grapes were picked in several passes from our winery vineyard to obtain a range of ripeness levels and to add complexity. All vines are hand pruned and bud reduction, shoot thinning and second set removal performed as required. The 2022 vintage was low yielding, we were able to pick Syrah grapes with depth of flavour, exceptional colour and aroma.
The grapes were gently destemmed and lightly crushed to purpose built red fermentation tanks. Rhone yeasts were selected to carry out fermentation allowing the full potential of aromatic intensity to be reached. The ferments reached 32°C and remained on skins for between 21 and 35 days depending on the tannin texture. After pressing, the wine was matured in predominantly French oak barriques and a few puncheons. It was racked twice over a 14-month maturation period and bottled unfined, but gently filtered to retain the vibrant varietal fruit characters. A true expression of our terroir.
