A 9.5" face clad in ethically-sourced bark gives the appeal of natural nesting, and a 3" diameter entrance sits high on the face for discouraging predation. An asphalt shingled and pitched roof covers the home for protection from predators and the elements, while metal trim is nailed over the roof ridge to ensure the security of the roofing materials. The gray-brown decking stain on the rest of the box contributes to this home's blending into its surroundings in nature, making for a safe nesting spot for owls.
The back panel extends higher than the roof and features two predrilled holes for straightforward mounting to a tree, wall, or post, and there are beaded panels on both sides, while one side opens for cleaning and maintenance and is secured by a metal latch. Inside the home is a 7.5" tall net ladder for owls to cling to and climb toward the entrance. The house is constructed entirely of 0.75" thick pine and designed to meet the specifications of the Cornell Lab of Ornithology, creating both a desirable, safe, and durable roost for screech owls.
