This jaw piece has a D-shape. The D-rings ensure that the mouthpiece lies calmly and stably in the mouth. The pressure of the D against the cheek makes steering easier, because the head is automatically pushed in the right direction. This makes the bit suitable for young horses for example. Due to the shape of this jaw piece, it is less easy to pull the bit through the mouth.

The mouthpiece with rings is a variant of the double-broken bit. The brass rings in the middle stimulate the horse to play with the bit. This increases the tongue activity so that a horse will produce more saliva and the jaws can relax more so that the horse is more likely to release in the mouth.

Sweet iron will rust when in contact with (air) humidity; the surface rust tastes sweet and naturally stimulates the saliva production. This will cause the horse to salivate more which will encourage the horse to take more contact. The process of rusting (oxidation) changes the blue colour of the TRUST-bit to a brownish-grey. A sweet iron bit will develop an orange-brown rust layer on the mouthpiece if it is temporarily not used. This is easily removed by wiping it off with a damp cloth.

TRUST bits are slightly curved so that they are better shaped towards the horse’s mouth. Because of this anatomical shape, the bit lies better in the mouth and the pressure is better distributed.
