Part of the acclaimed Documents of Contemporary Art series of anthologies which collect writing on major themes and ideas in contemporary art.

‘Raw data is now the stuff of life – and of art, as this impressive compendium makes plain. But data is never simply dematerialized or pure; it is always tethered to modes of transmission, storage and embodiment, and the artists and artworks highlighted here thrillingly explore the things and networks and media that have changed how we see and what we know in the age of information.’

– Michelle Kuo, Editor in Chief, Artforum

While information science draws distinctions between ‘information’, signals and data, artists from the 1960s to the present have questioned the validity and value of such boundaries. Artists have investigated information’s materiality, in signs, records and traces; its immateriality, in hidden codes, structures and flows; its embodiment, in instructions, social interaction and political agency; its overload, or uncontrollable excess, challenging utopian notions of networked society; its potential for misinformation and disinformation, subliminally altering our perceptions; and its post-digital unruliness, unsettling fixed notions of history and place.

This anthology provides the first art-historical reassessment of information-based art in relation to data structures and exhibition curation, examining landmark exhibitions and re examining work by artists of the 1960s to early 1980s, from Les Levine and N.E.Thing Co. to General Idea and Jenny Holzer.

Artists surveyed include David Askevold, Iain Baxter, Guy Bleus, Heath Bunting, CAMP (Shaina Anand & Ashok Sukumaran), Ami Clarke, Richard Cochrane, Rod Dickinson, Hans Haacke, Graham Harwood, Jenny Holzer, Joseph Kosuth, Christine Kozlov, Steve Lambert and the Yes Men, Oliver Laric, Les Levine, Eva & Franco Mattes, László Moholy-Nagy, Muntadas, Erhan Muratoglu, Raqs Media Collective, Erica Scourti, Stelarc, Thomson & Craighead, Angie Waller, Stephen Willats, Young-Hae Chang Heavy Industries, Elizabeth Vander Zaag.

Writers include James Bridle, Matthew Fuller, Francesca Gallo, Marina Grzinic, Lizzie Homersham, Antony Hudek, Eduardo Kac, Friedrich Kittler, Arthur and Marilouise Kroker, Scott Lash, Alessandro Ludovico, Jean-François Lyotard, Charu Maithani, Suhail Malik, Armin Medosch, Srinivas Aditya Mopidevi, Steve Rushton, Craig Saper, Jorinde Seijdel, Tom Sherman, Felix Stalder, McKenzie Wark, Benjamin Weil.

Great investment.
Style: Small Ball, Size: 2 Count
Dogs love them. Durable. Chew worthy for a beagle and a German shepherd. You cannot smell the flavor imparted but the pups definitely can. Always purchase the amount you need so each dog can have one. .

Bacon and a Ball? Can life get any better?
Style: Small Ball, Size: 3 Count
Come on.. these balls are the best. They smell like bacon, yes, they really do. They are durable and squeak. Upon aggressive play, the squeak will die out but the ball will still be useable.

She LOVES this ball
Style: Small Ball, Size: 1 Count
Our dog likes toys, but this ball is now her favorite ball. She even took it to bed with her last night. Our dog is 65 pounds, but she likes smaller toys so I ordered the small ball. It’s a good size. It’s nice and soft and squeaks. She seems to kills the squeaker right away, but she didn’t with this ball. It seems to be the least amount of money I’ve spent on a toy for her and it’s her favorite. I ordered another one just to have on hand. This toy is a great bargain!

Not Durable Enough for a Dachshund to be Left Alone With (Updated)
Style: Small Ball, Size: 3 Count
I just received these balls today and got one out for my daughter's Dachshund. She loved it for about 15 minutes and then gnawed a huge chunk out of it. It was in the garbage within 20 minutes of receiving it. I'm not even going to give her the other ones. We had an issue once before where she was chewing on her Kong and swallowed some pieces. It messed up her digestion for quite a while. Not taking the chance with these balls. Too bad because they have nice bounce and good squeak. She was thrilled with it until we saw that she ruined it and we quickly took it away from her. If you have a Dachshund or other aggressive chewer, I'd look for something else. UPDATE - I've bumped up the rating by 2 stars, changed the review title, and ordered another set. We found that we can't leave the dog alone with the ball, but if we use it to play with her, we can monitor when she starts to aggressively gnaw at it. So now, it's more of a fetch ball and we've taught her how to stop gnawing it and drop it for another chase. They still give in to her sharp little teeth more easily than other toys, but she really loves them and gets so excited when we get one out. It's easily her favorite toy, and who doesn't want to see their pup happy?! It's definitely not a chew toy, but it's been great as a fetch ball. If you go into it with that understanding, you and your pup will both be happier with the product.

Our Dogs Are Obsessed. The Squeak Is Intense.
Style: Large Ball, Size: 3 Count, Style: Large Ball, Size: 3 Count
BLUF: Our dogs absolutely love these — the squeak is loud enough that we sometimes have to take them away. --- Our dogs went crazy for these the moment we opened the pack. They’re durable, super bouncy, and easily became the new favorite toys in the house. The only thing to know is that the squeak is loud — like “I need to take this away for a minute” loud. But honestly, that’s probably why the dogs love them so much. Great value for a 3‑pack and perfect for pups who enjoy a good squeaky toy.
