Reveal Faint Nebulae Hidden by Light Pollution

Struggling to see faint nebulae through city lights? The Explore Scientific S-II Filter lets you observe deep-sky objects with clarity, without ever leaving your backyard.

Features

  • 6.5nm Passband Bandwidth: Narrowband filter designed specifically to isolate the emission line of ionized sulfur (S-II) at 672nm, perfect for observing nebulae and faint celestial objects.
  • Blocks Artificial Light: Absorbs almost all unwanted artificial light, significantly reducing the effects of light pollution for clearer night sky views.
  • Enhanced Contrast & Detail: Improves visibility of faint planetary nebulae, emission nebulae, and supernova remnants by enhancing contrast and filtering out interfering wavelengths.
  • Premium Build Quality: Manufactured with high-quality optical materials, ensuring durability and precision for both amateur and professional use.
  • Individual Test Report Included: Each filter comes with a personalized test report, guaranteeing premium performance and quality assurance.
  • Astrophotography Ready: Ideal for astrophotographers, allowing for stunning deep-sky object captures, even in light-polluted urban areas.
  • Universal 2-Inch Compatibility: Fits all 2-inch telescope eyepieces and astrophotography setups, making it versatile for a wide range of users.

The Explore Scientific S-II Nebula Filter is for you if…

  • You struggle to observe deep-sky objects like nebulae due to light pollution in urban or suburban environments.
  • You’re an astrophotographer looking to capture stunning images of emission nebulae and planetary nebulae without interference from unwanted light.
  • You want to enhance the contrast and clarity of faint celestial objects, even when the sky is not perfectly dark.
  • You need a high-quality, durable filter that’s been individually tested to meet professional standards.
  • You’re passionate about visual astronomy or astrophotography and want a reliable tool to significantly improve your observing and imaging experience.

When it comes to observing faint deep-sky objects like emission nebulae, planetary nebulae, and supernova remnants, light pollution can be a frustrating barrier—especially if you live in a city or suburb. The Explore Scientific S-II 2-inch 6.5nm Nebula Filter is designed specifically to overcome this issue. It isolates the emission line of ionized sulfur (S-II) at exactly 672nm, blocking almost all other wavelengths of light, including streetlights, building lights, and other sources of artificial illumination. This allows you to see celestial objects that would otherwise be drowned out, revealing faint nebulae in areas of the sky that appear completely dark without the filter.

The filter’s narrow 6.5nm passband enhances contrast and brings out fine details in objects like the Crab Nebula (M1) or the Helix Nebula (NGC 7293), which emit strongly in the sulfur line. You’ll notice nebulae that were previously invisible come to life, with sharper edges and more defined structures. For astrophotographers, this filter is a game changer, as it significantly reduces light pollution, making your long-exposure shots clearer, with less noise and more vibrant, accurate colors. The filter is especially effective for capturing the intricate filaments of supernova remnants, like the Veil Nebula (NGC 6992/95), with greater precision.

This filter is built with precision optical glass, ensuring durability and clarity over time, and it’s compatible with any telescope that accepts 2-inch eyepieces or camera adapters. You don’t need to worry about whether it will fit your setup—it’s designed for broad compatibility. Plus, every Explore Scientific S-II Filter comes with an individual test report, so you know exactly what you’re getting: a premium product with verified performance. This level of quality assurance ensures that the filter will meet your needs for high-contrast observation and photography of nebulae and supernova remnants, even in light-polluted areas.

If you’ve been disappointed with faint, washed-out views of deep-sky objects due to light pollution, or if you’re an astrophotographer looking to enhance your nebula images, the Explore Scientific S-II Filter is the tool you’ve been missing. Instead of traveling hours to find darker skies, you can turn your city backyard or suburban rooftop into a stargazing haven, revealing celestial wonders you never thought possible. Don't let light pollution hold you back from experiencing the night sky in all its beauty—this filter lets you unlock the full potential of your telescope and camera.

Good news, everyone! The Art of Futurama is here!
Format: Hardcover, Format: Hardcover
I always thought Futurama was simple and fun! However, after reading this book, I now understand that beneath its apparent simplicity lies an entire universe of complex experience, research, innovation, hard work, and talent. ★★★★☆ Art Unlike many other artbooks that rely heavily on production stills, this one is 90% sketchbook and finalized line art designs—a rare and delightful find. You'll not only discover the initial designs for all the main characters but also learn how to draw them. Each curve and line in the characters' designs is intentional, contributing to their unique personalities. The book also features three fold-out sections: New New York's buildings and junkyard, the Nimbus ship in orbit, and the Planet Express. While these offer detailed designs for enthusiasts, I didn’t find them particularly necessary, as there’s little in them that demands close study. ★★★★☆ Text The story of Futurama's creation is a joy to read. The book is divided into a few intros and nine chapters, each featuring two pages of text that include quotes from interviews with the show’s creators about their memories of its production. Additionally, there’s a wealth of quotes accompanying the images. I especially enjoyed learning how the team found inspiration for New New York by purchasing reference books in New York City bookstores. The integration of 3D and 2D animation—which was revolutionary at the time—is also well-documented. However, the advertised Futurama episode guide feels redundant. It offers nothing beyond episode titles and omits seasons 8 and 9 entirely, with no explanation given for their exclusion. ★★★★☆ Book Design The book's design features a creative transparent front cover case, a landscape layout, well-placed text and images, and a large, easy-to-read font. The page numbers are conveniently placed at the center of the page edge, making navigation effortless. Despite its strengths, I still feel the fold-outs are unnecessary and could have been omitted without any loss of value. ★★★★★ Price This book offers excellent quality for its price! Released in November 2024, it’s available as of January 2025 for $25. To paraphrase one of Futurama's opening chyron jokes (the texts below the show's logo at the beginning of each episode): "If you don’t buy it, someone else will." ★★★★☆ Overall Impressions It took me two relaxed sessions to fully read this book, and I can confidently say it’s impossible to get bored with it (or is that just nostalgia talking?). The hundreds of well-crafted line art illustrations of characters, assets, and backgrounds showcase the creators’ immense talent. The accompanying text is both engaging and informative, and the early sketches of the main characters provide a fascinating narrative of their development. That said, I was left wanting more. At 176 pages, the book feels a bit short, especially since it doesn’t include a single chapter dedicated to seasons 8 and 9, which aired after a ten-year hiatus. Nevertheless, The Art of Futurama is an excellent addition to any home library or a thoughtful gift for fans who grew up watching this iconic show in the late 1990s and 2000s.
