A glass of longevity, peace, and quiet flight, the Edo Kiriko Handcrafted Soaring Crane Whisky Glass renders one of the most revered symbols in Japanese tradition — the crane mid-flight — into hand-cut crystal, set against a backdrop of deep twilight blue and surrounded by patterns of hemp leaf and starlight.
Tsuru (鶴) — The Sacred Crane
Few symbols carry the weight of the tsuru. Across centuries of tradition, the crane has stood for longevity, fidelity, and peace — said to live a thousand years and chosen by Shinto belief as a sacred messenger between heaven and earth. The orizuru (折鶴), the folded paper crane, became a global symbol of wished-for peace. Here, in flight across the body of the glass, the crane carries all of that meaning into the everyday ritual of a poured drink.
Twilight Blue and the Asanoha Pattern
Behind the crane spreads a deep twilight blue — the color of the moment between sunset and stars. Surrounding the central motif is the asanoha (麻の葉), the traditional hemp leaf pattern, one of the most cherished motifs in hand-cut crystal tradition. Said to symbolize healthy growth and quiet strength, the asanoha appears in everything from kimono cloth to family heirloom glass. Every leaf, every facet, is cut by hand against a spinning wheel — tens of thousands of strokes per piece.
Light Catching at the Base
The faceted crystal base does more than steady the glass — it transforms it. As light passes through, the cuts scatter reflections across the surface beneath, casting ever-shifting patterns of shadow and shimmer. Set the glass on a wooden bar top or a stone shelf, and a quiet light show begins.
Where Symbol Meets Stillness
This is a glass that pairs power with grace. The crane lifts, the leaves grow, the cuts shimmer — yet the body itself is solid, balanced, grounded in the hand. A vessel for those who treat their pour as ritual, and who choose objects that carry meaning beyond function.
Perfect For
Single Malt Scotch, Bourbon, Japanese whisky, and Old Fashioned cocktails. A profoundly meaningful gift for retirements, milestone birthdays (especially 60th and beyond), weddings and anniversaries — where the crane's wish for long life and lasting love speaks louder than words.
