INTRODUCTION:
Welcome to the Construct & Erect Timber Ceiling Frames course. This course only includes a challenge assessment designed to assess your knowledge and skills required to demonstrate competence in planning, preparing, setting out, constructing and erecting timber ceiling frames in accordance with work instructions, drawings, specifications, workplace procedures, safety requirements, material requirements, relevant standards and quality expectations.
Constructing and erecting timber ceiling frames involves interpreting job requirements, preparing the work area, selecting suitable materials, tools and equipment, identifying hazards, applying risk controls and carrying out accurate set-out, cutting, installation and support work. In real workplace practice, this skill area is important because ceiling frames must be safely constructed, correctly aligned, adequately supported and prepared to receive ceiling linings while meeting required specifications, workplace standards and construction sequencing requirements.
The course assessment focuses on your ability to plan and prepare timber ceiling frame construction; apply NCC, Australian Standards, WHS, environmental, legislative, workplace, drawing and manufacturer requirements; select, check and use tools, equipment and PPE; inspect the site, locate services, control hazards and apply signage and barricades; select, calculate, handle and position materials safely; set out rafter, ceiling joist and support member positions to specifications, lining spacing requirements and AS 1684; cut, install, construct and erect ceiling joists, trimmers, hanging beams, counter beams, strutting beams and combined support components; construct a ceiling frame for at least three rooms and 30 square metres; apply workplace quality standards; manage working-at-heights, materials handling and waste disposal; and clean up and store tools, equipment and materials safely.
By successfully completing this course assessment, you will have demonstrated that you can construct and erect timber ceiling frames by preparing and sequencing work, applying required standards and workplace requirements, managing tools, equipment, materials, safety and environmental controls, accurately setting out and installing ceiling frame members and support components, maintaining quality during construction, and completing final clean-up and storage activities in accordance with workplace expectations.
