The lyrics for the EP were inspired by our recent struggles and challenges in life, which initially caused frustration and anger. However, overcoming these difficult situations has led to significant personal growth. In November 2023, we were arrested in Scurry County, in a city called Snyder, Texas, for possession of substances (specifically, a couple of vape pens, nothing harmful). The officers who took us to jail treated us strangely, and the situation felt scarier than it should have been, especially because we didn’t look like them. We felt misjudged from the moment we were pulled over, supposedly for not having a working center light (which is not a requirement, as all our other lights were working). After more than 24 hours, we were able to leave jail on bail and with a probation program called Pre-Trial Diversion. Following this, our lives changed drastically. We had already been struggling with our paperwork situation to stay in the US for many years. The Texas incident felt like hitting rock bottom. Personally, I fell into a deep depression, which led to the end of my 3-year relationship and my move from my house in Charlotte, NC back to Florida with no money and feeling terrible. Up to that point, I owed money to Scurry County, my lawyer, and my ex, who paid for my bail bond. I didn’t even have a bed of my own to sleep in. I focused on going through the probation process, which involved a psychological assessment, a 15-hour substance abuse class, at least 6 N/A meetings, monthly drug tests, and 80 hours of community service. Despite the unfair treatment by the officers and the terrible time in jail, this challenging experience helped me to overcome depression. These lyrics reflect everything I’ve been through, and I feel the need to share this experience with people in the US, hence the preference for English lyrics.
