Each shell is 18mm long, 21mm long including the smallest of the two rings on top. It is solid 925 sterling silver. It can be ordered as a charm or you can select the chain from the drop down menu.
It weighs 6.1g so a bit heavier than some of our standard shell charms.
Here is a a little bit of info' on who we made this for.
I was born in New Zealand but moved to the UK when I was 25. I first came to the Scilly's 15 years ago as I had discovered this is the only place in the Northern hemisphere where the New Zealand Pohutukawa tree grows and flowers. If you're not familiar with the Maori name, most people on the islands call them "Flame Trees" and there a couple of fine young examples up at the Seven Stones Inn above the studio. When I travel to New Zealand we try and get to my old home town of Tairua on the Coromandel Peninsula and I have over many visits indoctrinated my wife and daughters to search for the Spirula or Rams Horn shells on the beach there, in much the same way that people search for your Cowrie shells on the Scilly’s. The Spirula shells only come ashore after a big storm and you have to search for them high up the beach. It gave me great pleasure to give one of these shells to Fay to use as a mould for her beautiful jewellery and add another link between the two places where my heart lies, Tairua and St Martin’s.
