COURSE OVERVIEW:

Welcome to the Support Immobile Elderly Residents course. This program has been designed to equip you with the knowledge, clinical insight and practical strategies required to safely and effectively support elderly residents who are immobile or have significantly reduced mobility. You will examine the complexity of immobility, the associated risks, the techniques used to preserve function, and the multidisciplinary approaches required to maintain safety, dignity and quality of life.

This course begins by exploring the complexity of immobile or barely mobile residents, the five major categories of limited mobility and the factors contributing to immobility. This learning area also examines the implications, consequences and complications that arise from immobility, while defining the terms barely mobile and potentially mobile to guide appropriate care planning.

The next learning area focuses on strategies for preventing complications related to immobility, including how cost-cutting and ignorance contribute to tragic outcomes. This learning area expands on methods for managing common problems encountered in immobile or barely mobile residents, considerations for fully dependent residents and the three levels of movement required to maintain function.

The next learning area examines the importance of preserving movement ability and why anatomical knowledge is essential when performing passive limb movements. This learning area outlines precautions and contraindications for passive movement and provides guidance on encouraging movement across the head and neck, trunk, scapula, upper limb, elbow and superior radioulnar joint, wrist and hand, and lower limb.

The next learning area discusses how to manage residents with abnormal tone, including spasticity, rigidity, flaccidity and oedema. This learning area also considers the specific needs of barely mobile residents and the factors that can alter a resident’s ability to perform activities of daily living at their usual level, ensuring that mobility plans are responsive, safe and person-centred.

The next learning area addresses safe transfer decision-making, including how to determine when a full hoist is necessary and how safety may be compromised if hoists are not used correctly. This learning area also explores organisational policies regarding the use of restraints and the ethical, safety and dignity considerations associated with their use.

The next learning area explores strategies for maintaining or maximising respiratory function in immobile elderly residents. This learning area highlights positioning techniques, assisted breathing exercises, airway clearance strategies and the role of regular movement in supporting respiratory capacity and reducing secondary complications.

By the end of this course you will be able to recognise the complexities of immobility, prevent and manage complications, apply correct passive and active movement techniques, identify abnormal tone presentations, implement safe transfer practices, understand restraint considerations and support respiratory health in elderly residents with significantly reduced mobility.

Deep Hydration that Absorbs Quickly
Scent: Shea Butter, Size: 18 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
My girlfriend loves this Olay Body Lotion. It leaves her skin feeling incredibly soft and hydrated all day long. As someone who appreciates quality products, I've noticed how well it absorbs without being greasy. The shea butter scent is subtle and pleasant. It's a high-quality moisturizer that delivers on its promises. A great addition to her daily routine.

Best lotion ever
Scent: Fragrance-Free, Size: 18 Fl Oz (Pack of 1)
Best lotion ever. This lotion actually heals and moisturizes your skin so it doesn’t just wash off in the shower. I only have to use it once or twice a week. It dries so fast I don’t have to wait to dress. It’s not greasy at all. I recommend this lotion to everyone. Bonus that it’s unscented because I can use it with my scented body oils. I stopped buying the scented lotions that go with my shower washes and oils and just use this.
