Bright aromas of raspberries, pomegranates and a hint of violet are followed by cedar aromas that meld into a savoury complexity. The medium depth palate is finely textured, flavourful and elegant with red juiciness that merges into a long velvety finish.

Made from a collection of gnarled old bush vine vineyards planted from 1929 - 1972, these vineyards produce small quantities of fruit with a high concentration of flavours. Each parcel of fruit has individuality, creating intriguing complexity. A range of terroir can be seen across the different vineyards, from sandy soils and loam to red-brown earth over red clay.

A cool winter with lighter than average rainfall. Flowering was slightly delayed by cooler November weather and followed by quite warm, windy conditions which reduced the berry set and resulted in a lower than average crop. Warm December and January days kept berry sizes small. A much needed 31mm of rain fell on 31 January. This dry and mild to hot weather has produced grapes with great flavour and lovely balance.

Matured for 6 months in older French puncheons, French, Hungarian and American hogsheads.

With more than 170 years of unbroken independence, Yalumba continues to make wine at its founder’s home estate under direction of the same family today. Samuel’s Collection honours Yalumba’s founder Samuel Smith, his spirit of independence and conviction to invest in the land and make great wine.
