Most likely made around the end of the 1800s/early 1900s in the idyllic Swat Valley area of Pakistan, formerly part of the princely state of Yusafzai, these are lovely examples and will add a wonderful and authentic cultured, striking and historic feel to any setting.

Commonly known as wedding chairs

Skilfully made from black stained hardwood, they were crafted using traditional joinery without nails and have woven tightly plaited leather strap seats. They have low seats and high, straight, ornately carved backs and shapely back posts.

The seat and upper backrest are traditionally woven using natural hide, which not only add an element of comfort but also highlight the skilled weaving techniques of the Swat Valley tribes. The woven patterns often exhibit traditional tribal motifs or geometric designs, further enhancing the chair's visual appeal.
