Victorian 14K Gold Elaborate Snake Fob with Carnelian

This is a larger 14k gold ornate fob that features undulating snakes that twist into a lover’s knot. On each side of the fob is a mirror image of a snake’s head with an open mouth that flows down into the body of a snake that intertwines with itself. The snakes’ bodies are hand engraved with tiny scales that are very beautiful. The snakes are sandwiched between other scrolling foliate; the thin snakes and scrolling motifs create a lace-like effect. The base of the fob is hand engraved with a repeating leaf foliate, reminiscent of Greek classical columns. The bottom of the fob features a thin slice of carnelian that is transparent enough to display the orange marbling within the stone and the glow of the light shining through it. The carnelian has never been carved into, allowing an opportunity for the stone to still be carved by its next owner, or left as is to showcase the stone’s beauty. The pyramid-esque shape of the fob is pleasing to the eye, and this piece is perfect hanging on a longer chain. 

The fob measures 1 13/16” x 1 7/16” x 1 1/8”. The opening at the top measures 6.4 x. 4.4 mm (on the interior). The fob weighs 16.65 grams. Unmarked but acid tests as 14k.
