Comfrey - has been used for thousands of years to heal and soothe damaged tissues and was listed in the British Pharmacopoeia as a treatment for skin wounds and ulcers.  One of the healing constituents of the plant, allantoin, has been synthesised by the pharmaceutical industry to use as skin healing agent for the very uses for which comfrey is well known - to stimulate and hasten wound healing!  Comfrey is an approved medicine in Germany today for treating bruises, sprains and joint problems and it has been shown to be as effective, if not better than, pharmaceutical pain relief.  It is also anti-inflammatory and recent studies have shown it to be effective in treating back pain.

Wheat germ oil - this plant oil is rich in vitamin A, D and E and is antioxidant.  It helps to soothe irritation whilst nourishing the skin and encouraging it to heal, reducing scarring.

Rosemary essential oil - contributes an anti-inflammatory effect as well as improving blood supply to damaged tissues so that the body’s own healing ability is enhanced.  Rosemary is also an anti-oxidant.

Thyme Heal’s Comfrey Ointment is a heavier preparation than our creams.  Comfrey Ointment provides a good barrier for damaged skin, keeping moisture out whilst healing occurs and making the active constituents better available for healing.  Comfrey Ointment soothes and moisturises dry, cracked skin and encourages the knitting together of damaged tissue.  By enhancing the speed of healing Comfrey Ointment reduces scarring in skin, muscles, tendons and ligaments and this means they are less likely to tear in the future.  It is also ideal for use in healing surgical wounds.  If the wound is still open apply Thyme Heal's Calendula Cream on the exposed tissues and Comfrey Ointment to the intact skin surrounding the wound.
