Tuck into this on a Saturday night after dinner with some mature cheese and thank us later. A true delight and one of the wine world’s pinnacles of production, this Amarone Riserva is a contemplative wine to be opened and enjoyed slowly with some great company and strong cheese. Keeping this wine youthful and ever-more enjoyable is a soaring acidity that will see it remain drinkable for years to come.

The title Amarone Riserva means that this wine has had an extra year of ageing in barrel compared to an Amarone. Only the very best grapes can stand up to this extra ageing and still express themselves clearly in the glass. Monte Tondo selects their tip top Corvina and Rondinella grapes from across their vineyards for this wine and, as with all Italian Amarone, the grapes are dried out for at least three months before fermentation. This concentration of sugars makes Amarone wines some of the most powerful around, with deep, dried fruit characteristics, accompanied by savoury and spicy notes from the prolonged ageing time.

The Amarone Riserva from Monte Tondo is made sustainably using organically grown grapes. Gino Magnabosco runs this family estate in the Veneto region and they produce a series of exquisite whites and reds that are some of the best value reds we have tasted in a long time!
