A groundbreaking look at the transformation of SoHo. American cities entered a new phase when, beginning in the 1950s, artists and developers looked upon a decaying industrial zone in Lower Manhattan and saw, not blight, but opportunity: cheap rents, lax regulation, and wide open spaces. Thus, SoHo was born. From 1960 to 1980, residents transformed the industrial neighborhood into an artist district, creating the conditions under which it evolved into an upper-income, gentrified area. Introducing the idea-still potent in city planning today-that art could be harnessed to drive municipal prosperity, SoHo was the forerunner of gentrified districts in cities nationwide, spawning the notion of the creative class. In The Lofts of SoHo, Aaron Shkuda studies the transition of the district from industrial space to artists' enclave to affluent residential area, focusing on the legacy of urban renewal in and around SoHo and the growth of artist-led redevelopment. Shkuda explores conflicts between residents and property owners and analyzes the city's embrace of the once-illegal loft conversion as an urban development strategy. As Shkuda explains, artists eventually lost control of SoHo's development, but over several decades they nonetheless forced scholars, policymakers, and the general public to take them seriously as critical actors in the twentieth-century American city.

Stylish
Size: Large, Color: White
This Alimens & Gentle Oxford shirt is honestly a great addition to any wardrobe and completely exceeded my expectations ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐. The material thickness is spot on. It’s not too thin and not heavy either, which makes it perfect for both work and casual wear. The fabric feels sturdy and well structured without being stiff or uncomfortable. The style is clean, classic, and versatile. It looks sharp enough for business or office settings, but you can easily dress it down for a more casual look. The white color is crisp and polished, and the cut gives it a modern, put together appearance without feeling too formal. Quality really stands out with this shirt. The stitching is neat, the buttons are secure, and everything feels well made. It holds its shape nicely even after wearing it all day, and it doesn’t feel like one of those shirts that loses structure after a few washes. Comfort is another big win. The stretch in the fabric makes a noticeable difference, especially when moving around, sitting, or reaching. It feels flexible and breathable, and you don’t feel restricted at all. It’s the kind of shirt you can wear from morning to night without feeling uncomfortable. Wrinkle resistance is impressive. Even after a long day or sitting for hours, it still looks fairly smooth and presentable. A quick hang or light touch up is all it needs, which is great if you’re trying to save time. Value for money is excellent. For the price, you’re getting a stylish, comfortable, and well made shirt that easily competes with much more expensive brands. It looks professional, feels great, and performs well. Overall this shirt checks all the boxes. Great material, sharp style, solid quality, comfortable fit, and very good wrinkle resistance. I’d definitely recommend it and would happily buy more in different colors.

Work casual shirt that travels well:
Size: Large, Color: Dusty Blue, Size: Large, Color: Dusty Blue
This shirt runs true to size with a bit of room for more. The material is a bit stretchy which helps keep the shirt looking great without major wrinkles. The shirt itself is comfortable and feels like it'd last through many washes and the care instructions are fairly simple (cold wash and low dryer). This particular color is unusual and compliments many outfits. Given the quality, this is a high value item. Just go easy with the iron.
