Victorian 18K Gold Rose Cut Diamond and Sapphire Navette Ring

This is a classic navette shaped ring with a band of three rectangular faceted natural blue sapphires. The face of the ring has a silver front and gold back, typical of Victorian-era construction, with an 18k gold shank. The three central sapphires create a line across the face of the navette and are surrounded by Rose Cut diamonds of various shapes and sizes. The Rose Cuts are a rougher cut and seem almost organic in their shapes, which include rectangular, round, and square, with the larger stones toward the center and a border of smaller stones around the outside. The variation to the stones adds visual interest and a collage-like intricacy to the stone placement; all stones are prong set. The vibrant blue sapphires pop against the white of the diamonds, and the band of color aligns perfectly with the 18k gold ring shank, creating a solid line that cuts through the center of the navette and continues all the way around the band. The ring was purchased on a recent trip to England. It dates to the Victorian era, circa 1880. 

The ring contains three natural antique sapphires that each measure approximately 3.5 x 4.25 mm, for a combined TCW of 0.90 carats. The ring contains twenty natural antique Rose Cut diamonds that range in size and shape. The diamonds are bright and lively, H-I in color, SL2-I in clarity. 

The face of the navette measures 3/4” x 3/8”. The band is 3.5 mm at its widest, 2.3 mm at its narrowest. The ring weighs 5.35 grams. Unmarked; acid tests as 18k gold. In very good condition for its age. A great example of a classic navette ring.
