This undyed superfine Merino wool top is an exceptionally soft spinning fiber valued for its fine diameter, smooth drafting, and comfortable next-to-skin feel. Prepared as a combed top, the fibers are aligned parallel and shorter fibers are removed, creating a clean preparation that drafts evenly and spins into soft, consistent yarn.

At approximately 18.5 microns, this Merino falls into the superfine category. The fine fiber diameter produces yarns with a smooth hand and soft drape, making it especially well suited for garments worn close to the skin.

Naturally light cream to off-white in color, this wool top is also an excellent base for hand dyeing, absorbing color evenly with acid dyes and other protein-fiber dye methods.

Superfine Merino’s small fiber diameter and cohesive crimp allow it to felt readily as well, making it suitable for spinning, felting, weaving, and blending for a wide range of fiber arts projects.

Care

Store fiber clean and dry to protect from moisture and moths.

For finished wool items, hand wash gently in cool water with a mild wool wash. Avoid agitation and sudden temperature changes to prevent felting. Press excess water out without wringing and lay flat to dry.
