Unit E Records is proud to announce the post-humous debut solo album from world renowned, two time GRAMMY winning artist, Isaiah “Ikey” Owens. Hailing from Long Beach, CA, Ikey may be best known as a founding member, and keyboard magician in The Mars Volta or for his work with Jack White, as both a touring and session musician. His deepest roots lay in the underground and indie music scene including work with over ninety artists across all genres, ranging from hip-hop to heavy rock, from funk to pop (artists include: Sublime, Mastodon, El-P, Prefuse 73, Kelis, Long Beach Dub Allstars, Dave Sitek (TVotR), Saul Williams, Shuggie Otis, Rival Sons, Rubedo, Blowfly, Crystal Antlers, 2 Mex, Free Moral Agents, Long Beach Dub All-Stars, and many more.)
Just prior to his untimely death while on tour with Jack White, Ikey had quietly completed the tracks for what would become his debut solo album. The album was heavily rumored and shrouded in some mystery, as various versions had been floating among his circle of friends & music community, but without a finished version and track listing it seemed as if we would never have the opportunity to hear it.
Now, we are happy to celebrate the long awaited release of IKEY OWENS, timed to coincide with what would have been Ikey’s 50th birthday.
